A$AP Yams Laid to Rest in New York

A$AP Yams

*Rappers A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg were among the mourners who gathered in New York City on Sunday to bid a final farewell to their crew founder A$AP Yams, a week after his sudden death.

The 26-year-old A$AP Mob pioneer, real name Steven Rodriguez, was found unresponsive at his Brooklyn apartment on Jan. 18, and he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Fans were invited to attend a public memorial for Rodriguez at New York’s Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on Sunday morning, when an estimated 100 guests showed up to pay their respects. A private service was held later that afternoon for close friends and family, including Rocky and Ferg.

The funeral took place hours after A$AP Rocky attended the Sundance Film Festival premiere for his first movie, “Dope.” He also performed at the event’s after party in Utah, but cut short his gig after just two songs, revealing he was still too raw to continue as he comes to terms with his best friend’s death.

Rocky spoke to Billboard about reports suggesting Yams’ death was drug related, insisting, “People were saying that Yams overdosed on drugs – he didn’t overdose on any drugs.”

The cause of his death remains unknown, pending further test results.
