roland-martin *Roland Martin is utilizing a new network to take the radio airwaves.

Martin’s Nu Vision Media has inked a deal with the Empowerment Radio Network for his syndicated talk radio show, “The Roland Martin Show.”

Airing live from Washington, DC from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. ET in more than 20 markets throughout the U.S., “The Roland Martin Show” is a daily radio program that covers topics ranging from breaking news and politics to pop culture and entertainment. The show, hosted by Martin, was previously distributed by Radio One’s Reach Media. It follow’s the 46-year-old political pundit’s TV One news series, “News One Now with Roland Martin,” which airs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET.

“Radio is a tremendously powerful medium. It allows me to get up close and personal with the audience, and to hear what is happening on the ground around the country,” Martin said in a statement while voicing his happiness over the new partnership. “I am excited to own my show, and to grow it in partnership with David [Anderson of Empowerment Radio Network]. It’s time to #bringthefunk!”

Talk of Martin’s new partnership comes amid TV One recently revealing that “News One Now with Roland Martin” finished as the number one cable news show in 2014 in its time slot among African-American viewers. Compared to broadcast television, Always A List noted that the show is second only to NBC’s “Today” in the key demographics when it comes to Black TV viewers.

For Martin, the ranking reinforces his belief about the show’s relevance among black viewers.

“The strong Black viewership of News One Now in our first year proves what we knew all along: African-American desire strong, compelling ad engaging news and information that speaks directly to them,” said Martin. “Whether it was Ferguson, voter suppression, Ray Rice or the Bill Cosby story, African-Americans want to hear the news of the day from their perspective and from voices they know and trust.”

Martin’s appeal to Black viewers justifies Empowerment Radio Network’s desire to partner with him as Anderson praised the Houston-bred newsman’s ability to bring black issues to the forefront.

“Roland Martin is the most significant voice in America for Black issues and he will now be distributed on the only 100% wholly-owned black talk radio network in America, Empowerment Radio Network,” the Founder of Empowerment Radio Network founder stated.
