Kanye West Admits He Was Racially Profiled Because of His Braids

kanye west *Hmm, maybe Anthony Mackie was right about braids/dreadlocks and the negative perception by cops that comes with them.

Which leads us to this Kanye West’ story. It seems his choice of hairstyles apparently got him racially profiled back in the day.

According to deposition obtained by TMZ, the rapper/producer confessed to being convicted of a felony, saying, “I was racially profiled for having a white T-shirt and braids.”

In the deposition, which came from a case filed by a photographer who West assaulted at LAX, he mentioned that cops got him for allegedly stealing printers at an OfficeMax in Illinois in 2000. Although he doesn’t explain where the authorities found him, West did state that at the time he was already a successful music producer.

West goes on to suggest that the cops doctored the evidence in the case to frame him.

“I was driving a white Ford Expedition,” West said. “When I saw the police report, they crossed out where it said ‘Cream Ford Explorer.'”

Despite the deposition, which was filed in court by West’s lawyer Shawn Holley, stated that West said he believes he was convicted of a felony, it notes it was actually “a mistaken identity for stealing some printers from OfficeMax after I was a platinum producer.”

The opposing lawyer in the case responded to West’s claims, saying, “I’m sure that wasn’t in the charge that you were … a platinum producer.”

West disputed the lawyer as he maintained that he was targeted because of his braids.

“Yeah, I believe so,” he argued. “I think that’s what — I think that’s what — where America had me at that time for having braids.”

  1. Yeah, so what? Braids aren’t even close to the only item cops use to “profile” black people.

It may be a factor, it may not. The one common denominator that we know for sure is that they profile that black skin.

I don’t care how you slice it or dice it, black people have a right to wear their hair, and dress any way they choose. We don’t need massa’s permission to do anything. Will someone please inform them of that fact. It’s 2015 people!

In fact, black people have always influenced trends in the areas of hair and dress. People try to emulate what black folks do all day, every day.

White folks have been imitating our music, singing, dressing, body styles, and hairstyles for many moons… But it seems that it’s only okay if they’re exhibiting what we’ve originated.

Please stop with the smoke screen B.S. Amerikkka is racist, and that’s a freaking fact!

Trying to use Kanye to cover for Anthony Mackie’s “color blind” stupidity is a joke!
