In its recent annual report on hate crimes in L.A. County, the L.A. County Human Relations Commission reported a sharp jump in hate crimes in L.A.
Worse, the majority of hate crimes are now committed by Latinos and blacks. And even more disturbing, blacks and Latinos commit the overwhelming majority of hate crimes against each other.
The recent murder of black teen Cheryl Green in Harbor Gateway by alleged Latino gang members and the more than a dozen attacks by Latinos and blacks on each other in the San Fernando Valley point to a pending crisis.
To start King Week, and in the spirit of Dr. King's fight against racial violence, the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable will sponsor a crucial roundtable that explores ways to prevent hate crimes between Latinos and blacks.
