ERIC BENET LASHES OUT AGAINST HALLE BERRY: Singer urges ex-wife to stop playing the ‘victim.’
*It all started with a quote in last week’s In Touch magazine. Commenting on her divorce settlement with ex-husband Eric Benet, actress Halle Berry said she “finds it difficult to pay money to a man who cheated on me, like, 27 times."
Benet read the quote, got upset, and unleashed a torrent of pent-up frustration toward Berry to the New York Post.
"If she said that, that I cheated on her 27 times, then she is simply lying. Straight out, that's a lie and a gross, gross exaggeration of what happened in our marriage,” the singer told the newspaper, adding that he has not received any money from the “X-Men” star, nor has he asked for money.
“I've admitted my indiscretion and apologized and took responsibility,” he continued. “I think maybe it's time for Halle to take some responsibility, instead of constantly casting herself in this victim mode and implying her commitment to our marriage was without flaw. I have refrained from ongoing attacks on her and she needs to do the same. She should leave me and my daughter, India, in peace.”
"Halle used to insist she loved India, though she hasn't seen her and has barely communicated with her in years, and not because I've stopped her,” Benet added. “If she really had any feeling toward my girl, she'd realize how hurtful such statements are. Especially when they are untrue. …I so don't want to go down this road and say things about Halle in anger and frustration. But I can't just keep letting these snipes and lies continue in the media without commenting."
