EVENT CALENDAR: Rowell hosts foster child fund raiser; Niecey Nash hosts 'Spring Bling'; Boost Mobil sponsors 'barbershop on wheels.'(April 21, 2006)
*Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Richardson join LeVar Burton of PBS’s “Reading Rainbow,” screenwriter Antwone Fisher and actress Victoria Rowell in unveiling a national foster youth art exhibit at L.A.’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) to launch May as National Foster Care Awareness Month. Presented by the Rowell Foster Children’s Positive Plan (RFCPP), the “Passion Art Tour” hopes to educate and illustrate to the public just how foster children can have a positive future if given the tools for success. Under the tutelage of renowned collagist Phoebe Beasley, foster youths in California and Boston created artwork to illustrate their hopes, dreams and above all else, their passion for life. A reception and unveiling ceremony will be held May 1 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at MOCA (250 S. Grand Ave.) *Actress/comedienne Niecy Nash hosts Spring Bling 2006, a luncheon to take place April 30 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills for top-level female executives from the worlds of entertainment, health care, politics and the corporate sector. The event introduces these guests to some of the best new products in cosmetics, technology, spring's couture fashions, as well as automobiles hot off the assembly line and other valuable resources to support daily life. The contraption comes fully loaded with a bathroom, full size refrigerator, flat screen T.V, satellite radio, DVD player, premium stereo system complete with ceiling mounted speakers, sub woofer and six disc-CD changer with wireless speakers. Los Angeles-based celebrity barber Julian Payne, whose clients include T.I., Chris Tucker, Eddie Murphy, Tyrese and Redman, will offer free cuts to VIPs and further demonstrate his grooming skills on some of the nation's best high school players participating in the 2006 Jordan All American Classic.
