*It is unknown whether Barry Bonds used “pitchy” to describe any of his San Francisco Giants teammates competing Tuesday in “Giants Idol,” the team’s version of Fox’s “American Idol.”

The adjective would’ve been a bad pun had the athlete used it, as Bonds actually sported a blonde wig and strapless dress to play “Idol” judge Paula Abdul for the occasion.

"I'll never tell my wife to hurry up any more because it took me forever to get ready," Bonds said. “I couldn't get my hair right. There were a lot things I went through during the 30 minutes I was getting ready."

“Giants Idol,” a creation of Giants player Mark Sweeney, raised $337 from the small amount of fans gathered at the practice. The amount will be matched by the Giants organization and donated to the Giants Community Fund.

In addition to raising money for charity, Sweeney decided to stage the “Idol” competition to boost team chemistry and bring a little levity to the clubhouse.

"It was up in the air whether Barry would do this," Sweeney said Tuesday. "We asked him this morning. It was almost embarrassing to have him do it."

The whole thing was captured on film for Bonds’ upcoming reality show, “Bonds on Bonds,” due to premiere April 4 on ESPN2, the network announced Wednesday.

As previously reported, cameras will follow Bonds as he chases Hank Aaron's career home-run record during the upcoming season. The 41-year-old enters 2006 with 708 homers, seven shy of passing Babe Ruth and 48 away from breaking Aaron's career mark of 755.
