Comment: "Kung Fu Panda" give me a break! Angelina Joli made the top of Forbes list simply because she was able to take one of the hottest guys in Hollywood(if thats your type lol)and convince him to play daddy to all those doggone kids she adopted and then he stuck around around to knock her up with twins- and she continues to lead Brad pitt around on a leash. As for Oprah- I am sure she is not losing any sleep over this list- Oprah will continue to do Oprah and not worry about anyone else thinks- there was a bit of a anti-Oprah tone last year when she threw her support behind Obama.

Comment: happy friday y'all! angelina is powerful not due to money but some invisible power she wields due to starring in a cartoon? The Obama's are #49 and he's the Prez? and Oprah makes more money than all of them and she ain't wielding no power? and where is Bill Gates and the other Microsoft Gurus on this list? What are the criteria anyhoo? sounds like they just wanted off the top "wanna get some fresh faces on the list" type of jazz. it's cool. it's just another "list" subliminally tryna tell "us" what/who to be like. top 100 richest, powerfullest, sexiest, yadda yadda yadda....

Comment: lol Ok Boot, I'll bite. "Obama makes the list but___" why? I scanned the list (http://www.forbes.com/lists/2009/53/celebrity-09_The- Celebrity-100_Rank_4.html), and there are only TV personalities, musicians, and sports figures. Why would the Com-in-Chief be included on this list? Is that not weird and a tad bit disrespectful? It diminshes his role, makes him more a "rock star" than a serious person. And it underscores why sooo many folks treat him like an entertainer to be admired and followed--dissecting his (and his wife's) clothes, talking about how "cool" he is, etc.--instead of focusing on the important decisions he's making that affect real lives. On one hand I get it, I get the appeal, he's a historic figure and a cool, confident guy to boot, but at some point, you'd think folks would move past celebratory mode and give his position the respect it deserves. Lists like this diminish it a bit. (Did I pazz the test Boot? lol)

Comment: Lists as these are not really measures of power, but of popularity. Truth be told, Oprah doesn't really have power as much as she has influence, well at least from a public perspective. Those with "real" power do not need to be popular or even liked. Those are the people who can get things done even if they are hated. They usually exist behind the scenes. Although I'm sure Oprah has some behinds the scenes power, but most of her influence come from popularity wiht the public.

Comment: This is some ole bullsh*t. I'll say it. Angelina is a straight skank. All them tattoos - she looks like a dirty biker chick in a ball gown. I have two myself but you won't see them when I'm dressed formally. And she's a damned stick w/tits. She weighs about a buck-o-five and owes somebody a quarter. She has no azz to speak of and she's just a baby-mama, probably cuz she won't marry him. I think she IS leading ole boy around by his nuts but unless she can do gymnastics like Mary Lou Retton, I can't for the life of me figure out why he's so pressed. But that's what white men like and white women want to be. Yeah she has them puffy lips but so what? Mick Jagger has big lips too. And so does Steve Tyler (Aerosmith) so what's the big freakin deal? Why is that appealing? Hers always look like she needs a tube of Carmex. Aside from all of that, what the hell has she really done but go around the world and snatch up children that will forever be in the spotlight whether they want to be or not? I see a whole lot of therapy in their future. And then to have 3 kids out of wedlock on top of that. What the hell kind of example are they setting? It has become way too in vogue to be a babymama / babydaddy for my comfort level. It's like marriage is a disease people don't want to catch. So she travels around and takes pictures with people in poverty. So what. Oprah built a damned school. Even Madonna is supporting an orphanage in Malawi (sp?). I understand that to the white world her bad azz in your face demeanor is intriguing but to me, she's just an overexposed skank. So yeah, I did tell y'all how I really feel and it felt good to say it. And yeah TGen you were true to form and you proved what we all already know - you're a 20-nothin idiot with a pathological hatred of our president and you need president therapy right upside your head. There. I'm done now. Happy F*cking Friday, e'ryone. *Exhaling*

Comment: lol Soulmusic and Boot, yall are crazy! Queeniebunz, I was just about to co-sign your post til I saw the last part, lol. Nothing in what I wrote was "hateful." In fact, I defended the pres' position and said I think he should be taken more seriously. But of course you missed that part, too bent on hating on me ALWAYS, lol. That's cool, though. I can't make you think past your simpleness, I'm not going to even try. But p.s. I agree with your azzessment of Jolie.

Comment: I'm confused, they talk about Angelina's power because of movies? Thats misleading. If anything its because of all the charitable things she does. I always see her (on tv) going to washington and things like that. Her and Brad are doing their thing. As far as Oprah goes, who really cares about this list? Are you all really upset? Someone said it best whent they said what Oprah has is "influence". But doesnt that often translate into power? IDK. Anyway, Brad and Angie are doing their thing. Cant nobody knock them for the things they have done.

Comment: >yunvme - They are doing their thing? What exactly is their "thing"? Adopting internationally? Photo ops in poverty stricken countries? What exactly do they DO? Do they raise money? Do they have a foundation? A school? Charity events? I'm just asking because I really don't know what they DO. Bill Gates gives kazillions in computers to inner city schools, etc. Wyclef raises money for Haiti. Madonna supports an orphanage. Oprah built a school. Bono has a program for African women to make clothing and sell it in boutiques. What do they do? No. Wait a minute. Brad has the program in New Orleans building the houses. My bad. But what does she DO? Talk to me.

Comment: >dcdouglas - You're kidding, right? Oprah simply says the name of a book on her show or in her magazine and it flies off the shelves. Michelle wears a skirt and a cardigan or a dress and it ends up being on back order. That is the definition of power, if you ask me. They have the POWER to influence public opinion. That's a lot of power. >yunvme - And you're kidding, too. To middle class Beckys, Oprah is guru. They follow her like ReRun worshipped that head of lettuce on "What's Happening?". Oprah could lead they (misspelling intended) azzes off a cliff and they'd just bring their designer parachutes she recommended and hope for the best.

Comment: Jolie first became personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises while filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia. She eventually turned to UNHCR for more information on international trouble spots.[43] In the following months she visited refugee camps around the world to learn more about the situation and the conditions in these areas. In February 2001, Jolie went on her first field visit, an 18-day mission to Sierra Leone and Tanzania; she later expressed her shock at what she had witnessed.[43] In the coming months she returned to Cambodia for two weeks and later met with Afghan refugees in Pakistan where she donated $1 million for Afghan refugees in response to an international UNHCR emergency appeal.[44] She insisted on covering all costs related to her missions and shared the same rudimentary working and living conditions as UNHCR field staff on all of her visits.[43] Jolie was named a UNHCR Goodwill Amb%*$ador on August 27, 2001 at UNHCR headquarters in Geneva.[45]

Name: yunvme
Comment: Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees and internally displaced persons in more than 20 countries.[46] Asked what she hoped to accomplish, she stated, "Awareness of the plight of these people. I think they should be commended for what they have survived, not looked down upon."[47] In 2002, Jolie visited the Tham Hin refugee camp in Thailand and Colombian refugees in Ecuador.[48] Jolie later went to various UNHCR facilities in Kosovo and paid a visit to Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya with refugees mainly from Sudan. She also met with Angolan refugees while filming Beyond Borders in Namibia. In 2003, Jolie embarked on a six-day mission to Tanzania where she traveled to western border camps, hosting Congolese refugees and she paid a week-long visit to Sri Lanka. She later concluded a four-day mission to Russia as she traveled to North Caucasus. Concurrently with the release of her movie Beyond Borders she published Notes from My Travels, a collection of journal entries that chronicle her early field missions (2001–2002). During a private stay in Jordan in December 2003 she asked to visit Iraqi refugees in Jordan's eastern desert and later that month she went to Egypt to meet Sudanese refugees. On her first U.N. trip within the United States, Jolie went to Arizona in 2004, visiting detained asylum seekers at three facilities and the Southwest Key Program, a facility for unaccompanied children in Phoenix. She flew to Chad in June 2004, paying a visit to border sites and camps for refugees who had fled fighting in western Sudan's Darfur region. Four months later she returned to the region, this time going directly into West Darfur. Also in 2004, Jolie met with Afghan refugees in Thailand and on a private stay to Lebanon during the Christmas holidays, she visited UNHCR's regional office in Beirut, as well as some young refugees and cancer patients in the Lebanese capital.[49]

Name: yunvme
Comment: In 2005, Jolie visited Pakistani camps containing Afghani refugees, and she also met with Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz; she returned to Pakistan with Brad Pitt during the Thanksgiving weekend in November to see the impact of the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. In 2006, Jolie and Pitt flew to Haiti and visited a school supported by Yéle Haïti, a charity founded by Haitian-born hip hop musician Wyclef Jean. In 2007, Jolie returned to Chad for a two-day mission to %*$ess the deteriorating security situation for refugees from Darfur; Jolie and Pitt subsequently donated $1 million to three relief organizations in Chad and Darfur.[50] Jolie also made her first visit to Syria and twice went to Iraq, where she met with Iraqi refugees as well as multi-national forces and U.S. troops.[51]

Comment: Over time, Jolie became more involved in promoting humanitarian causes on a political level. She has regularly attended World Refugee Day in Washington, D.C., and she was an invited speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2005 and 2006. Jolie also began lobbying humanitarian interests in the U.S. capital, where she met with members of Congress at least 20 times from 2003.[45] She explained in Forbes: "As much as I would love to never have to visit Washington, that's the way to move the ball."[45] In 2005, Jolie took part at a National Press Club luncheon, where she announced the founding of the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children, an organization that provides free legal-aid to asylum-seeking children with no legal representation which Jolie personally funded with a donation of $500,000 for its first two years.[52] Jolie also pushed for several bills to aid refugees and vulnerable children in the Third World.[45] In addition to her political involvement, Jolie began using her public profile to promote humanitarian causes through the mass media. She filmed an MTV special, The Diary Of Angelina Jolie & Dr. Jeffrey Sachs in Africa, portraying her and noted economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs on a trip to a remote group of villages in Western Kenya. Comment: Yunvme, I too would be interested to see your wikipedia link for Oprah's good deeds. But just FYI, it has been widely reported that Jolie has one of the most powerful PR teams in the biz, if you've ever noticed her homewrecker status is rarely ever mentioned. She pays people in various msm outlets (including the Internet) to post positive stories about her. She understands the power of good PR. I read an article on that a while back. But re your wikipedia info, doing a lot of charity does NOT necessarily eqate to being powerful. I don't think anyone can argue with a straight face that she wields as much power as Oprah Winfrey. That's why I think Forbes has to be joking or something, I'm looking for them to do a late "April Fool's" issue or something in response to the list. Seriously.

Comment: Here's an article on Jolie as a master publicist: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/21/business/media/21ang elina.html?_r=1&ref=medi "LOS ANGELES — When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt negotiated with People and other celebrity magazines this summer for photos of their newborn twins and an interview, the stars were seeking more than the estimated $14 million they received from the deal. They also wanted a hefty slice of journalistic input — a promise that the winning magazine’s coverage would be positive, not merely in that instance but into the future. According to the deal offered by Ms. Jolie, the winning magazine was obliged to offer coverage that would not reflect negatively on her or her family, according to two people with knowledge of the bidding who were granted anonymity because the talks were confidential. The deal also asked for an “editorial plan” providing a road map of the layout, these people say. The winner was People. The resulting package in its Aug. 18 issue — the magazine’s best-selling in seven years — was a publicity coup for Ms. Jolie, the Oscar winner and former Hollywood eccentric who wore a necklace ornamented with dried blood and talked about her fondness for knives before transforming herself into a philanthropist, United Nations good-will amb%*$ador and devoted mother of six..."

Comment: Yunvme:"I dont know much about the woman, so I just pasted the links." That is not the impression you gave in your initial post. The tone of your post was contrary as if you did not see how anyone could question the validity of this list. Here is what you wrote: "If anything its because of all the charitable things she does. I always see her (on tv) going to washington and things like that. Her and Brad are doing their thing." You were clearly throwing fire, lol. But if you want to back down, that's cool. Now re this: "I was not asked to provide proof or links for Oprah." Sure you were, re Quenniebunz's post: "But I'm just curious - what would you get if you did the same for Oprah." Are you there, Yunvme? Do you want to post her deeds for the sake of contrast with Jolie's or are you conceding that that Forbes list is bogus and belongs in a tabloid, not a magazine folks usually take seriously?

Curious...in regards to your comment about white women vs. black, well there are several white women I admire for their good deeds/politics/philanthropy. Example - I absolutely love Susan Sarandon for her political work. She has used her voice for what she believes in and I totally respect that. I love her acting, too. She's a very cool, classy lady. (Although I have never figured out how you could be the world champions in America, since America, contrary to some folks, is NOT the world. I asked my friend Bill, how can they say they are the world champions (an American team; forget which professional sport) about that as it pertains to basketball (we're both rabid Knicks fans). Bill told me very succinctly, at that time that other parts of the world did not have professional basketball, baseball playoffs. Thus, the American teams were the 'world' champions. What has me scratching my head now is how Angelina replaced Oprah. First of all, the U.N became irrelevant more than 20 years ago, so being an amb%*$ador on behalf of the U.N. doesn't mean a damn thing. Old man Forbes made it known that he was disappointed in that pock-marked face (how the hell you gonna have all that money and don't have those craters removed from your face is beyond me) son of his who tried to run for republican president a few years ago, and is a frequent contributor to Fixed News, until he barely saw him. As a matter of fact, Forbes senior was so busy running around with his good friend Elizabeth Taylor on motorcycles, he didn't get home much. So, we really don't give a shyt about those lying azz mo-fos at Forbes. And yes, Oprah played a huge part in the person who became the President of these UnTied States!
