Comment: I have to co-sign your sentiment Dr. Watkins, with the caveat that I am (or at least used to be) a Hughley fan. The Imus thing (which wasn't two years ago btw, it happened in April 07) didn't bother me as much as it did some others. And while I never really liked the way he picked on audience members and I think he has an overly-foul mouth, I still appreciated his stand-up routines I've seen and I especially liked his social commentary as a guests on some news shows like Real Time. So as a semi-fan, I was even more disappointed than you at this disaster on CNN. I'm shocked that he would allow himself to be a vehicle of such buffonery, I thought he had grown past that with all his political swagger the past few years. I don't see this show lasting much longer. He's failing. He's been given a golden opportunity and he's ruining it either because he's too ignorant to see the damage he's doing or he's intentionally throwing someone at CNN a bone (ie acting a fool to keep the negative stereotypes front and center). Al Sharpton as a guest on Hughley's show last week compared DL's opportunity to Obama's, both are Black men put in unconventional positions of power, a lot is expected from both. DL has squandered his opporunity, I sooo hope Obama does not follow suit. *Sigh*

Comment: I haven't always liked DL because he hasn't always been likable. I like so many others believe that there are some things about us that shouldn't be spoken in mixed company. We relaxed our standards and it birthed buffoons like DL who, unbeknownst to themselves, are the minstrel show of the century for white folks absolute amusement and confirmation that we will always be left back. We allow the wrong images to be broadcast across the world and even given opportunites long denied - we still can't seem to act right! After listening to DL's commentaries and crediting him with amazing growth and awareness he is given another shot on tv and like that stupid as.s show that was finally taken off the air along with that hot ghetto mess of a show - DL has found another audience willing to snicker at his buffoonery and again the black community is under seige because he continues to lay our ills and disrespect of women out there to ultimately be picked up by another don imus. We just keep going round and round this worthless road to nowhere only to end up at its beginning yet again. We have got to do better - the world has more than one reason to watch us now and its time for us to collectively present a better picture. Regardless of what anyone else says we are judged as a whole by the images portrayed in the media and we can't keep complaining if we're going to keep just sitting back letting it happen.

Comment: DL did what DL does. Although it's a poorly written script, it's better suited for Comedy Central..like D Grier's show.

Comment: TGEN..HERESY I SAY. Don't ever put DL in Obama in the same sentence with that sort of tomfoolery..lol DL has a history of doing this crap. Obama does not... ----

Name: PRDC
Comment: I like DL but his first show was tasteless especially with the pimp scene and about the gold grills and everything, we have to get away from that. We are more than that, even though a small number will do just what he said. So hopefully the next show will be better.

Comment: I say we get a petition to eliminate this show immediately. Especially now, in light of the election of Obama. I still say Chris Rock would have been better suited for that show. He's bright, politically savvy and would have had a bit more class.

Comment: LOL, I hear you Musb. I was just reiterating what Sharpton said, he's the one who compared the two. But I agree with you. *Channeling Lloyd Bentson in his debate with Dan Quale* I voted for Barack Obama, I volunteered for Barack Obama, I put out a yard sign and wore a t-shirt for Barack Obama, and DL Hughley, you are NO Barack Obama. lol

Comment: Cuteleggs, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. I was just thinking after I read this article, "I REALLY want that show off the air." I don't know about Chris Rock. I like that guy from Tom Joyner's show and BET, Jeff Johnson. I could see him hosting a show with a converstation forum, inviting all kinds of people Black and White, politicians, actors, and comedians, like Bill Maher does, and still maintaining a sense of respect and purpose. I think we need new blood out there. There is no shortage of talented people, time to give other people a chance imo...

Comment: Co-sign with McNasty.

Comment: how does the show fare in the ratings? . . . . . a petition request to cancel the show is something to do but ratings equal money and the network will not air the show indefinitely if its ratings remain low . . . . I watched the first show which I found while channel surfing: I can't get back that hour but I won't waste any more

Comment: Obviously DL is no Obama. We all have opportunities to do great things. DL has a great opportunity to do something meaningful with this show. I don't know how much control he has over the content of his show. But I am so disappointed (I don't know why) that CNN has allowed such show to appear on it's network when it clearly does not fit into CNN news format. Is this the best that they can do?

Comment: D.L. "ugly" has always been bad news for Blacks. As I'm sure many of you are aware, he's one of those Blacks, who, when around mostly whites, feels a need to denegrate Blacks for a big laugh. (Rutgers girls/Desmond Pfeiffer sitcom comments) Seems he has that "I got mine" mentality. I thought the exchange between he and Sharpton would have been good had it not been done before a white audience. It seemed more like private Black "housingkeeping" info that would have just benefited Blacks, but when whites hear about such things they tend to use the info against us. Ditto for David Alan Grier and a host of other Black "comedians".

Comment: McNasty you are spot on. I say we start a movement to shut down DL's show. Tell everyone you NOT to watch it. Not sure about Chris Rock anymore. I used to love his political commentary but lately he's whack and a bit buffoonish.

Name: allaboutlydia
Comment: Now PAUL MOONEY is a brillant comedian, excellent at political commentary and he deserves a show.

Name: Exmun
Comment: I agree with 'Herbs. DL is just being DL. This schtick is what he does. The real issue is that is both perplexing and revealing is why CNN, a so-called news outfit, would be putting on a comedy show about stereotypes and buffoonery. My issue is not that a show like DL's show should not be made. There are many made like it on Comedy Central, HBO, etc. It's that DL's show was greenlighted to be broadcast on CNN, the world's largest cable news network. What decisionmakers at CNN are trying to belittle and stereotype Black people to further decrease? And what the hell does a comedy show belong on a "straight" news network? It's almost like CNN is clowning itself to ho around for ratings. Sad on all levels.

Comment: Exmun: "It's almost like CNN is clowning itself to ho around for ratings. Sad on all levels."...I think it had everything to do with the election and the fact that there was a black candidate. So I give it three more weeks, max.

Comment: Doors begin to open up for DL when he agreed with Don Imus and wasn't afraid to go on David Letterman & FOXNews to say so. I haven't been able to stomache DL since BET ComicView.
