Comment: Many bands form under an entity like a corporation or a limited liability company (LLC) and receive their royalty income from the label as a single payment. Publishing income is typically paid in the name of the individual. There are quite a few holes in the story that need filing in here. Did the band agree to have their publishing income come in a single check to their company? Was the check made out to him individually? Did the alleged theif forge the check? So, it's a juicy story, but my meter is at midway wondering why the story doesn't quite make sense. If you're going to out your boy, at least have the good sense to tell the whole story so that it makes sense.

Why is it these young jocks can't make more the 3 or 4 CDs together, while old-school groups like the Temps, the Four Tops, The Spinners still keep performing together YEARS ... DECADES after the original members have DIED!

DECADES after the original members have DIED!" One huge difference is that we live in an entirely different culture now than when those great groups were at their peak. I'm sure some of them did not like each other, but all seem to have a common goal to come together and succeed. Also, back in the day Black folks were more isolated by yt America and we looked to our music as a major source of entertainment and to make us happy, and it did. The groups you listed sang of love, and sing they did in perfect harmony! Whatever their personal lives, they did not disrespect and call Black women out their names. Those groups put Black women on a pedestal. Many of the rappers of this generation have thrown Black women under the bus. As I stated above, different culture, and back then we had standards!

Comment: CONRAd... why can't groups stay together? Because there is more money to be made this last decade. The Temps, Four Tops had in-house songwriters and likely was just paid a fee and a percentage from a tour. Nowadays, you can make money from your song used in a 30 sec commercial to ringtones, to many interent sales outlets, and on and on. There is big money to be made these days.

Comment: Conrad ... you made some valid points. I don't know 'bout you, but I'm card-carrying old-school. Yeah things are different ... the "business" is hella more mercenary, now. Used to be them old school groups might'a made 2-3 albums before they made their breakthrough album. Nowadays, an artist can't hardly get signed if label execs don't think they can hype you up to multi-platinum status on your debut. Back in the day them old groups did have a commitment to their craft ... their art. Seems a lot of these young jocks are only commitment to the paper, the fame and the celebrity. Also contributing to the demise of the R&B singing group is the technology. Why be in a group when you can overdub your own background vocals in the studio with all kinds of tricks (T-Pain can ya, hear me?) Why be in a group on stage when you can hire a gang of non-sing dancers and you spend half the time lip-syncing while crumping and doing backflips and hand stands (Usher!!) And last but not least, why be in a group and split a payday 4-5 ways when you can split just one way?

Comment: Mas90 <- the comment was intended to shed light on the unability that some groups have with bickering once they are thrusted into the spotlight. We as back people for some reason cannot get along with each other unless there is some type of mediocre "drama"? As for inquiring about a stolen paycheck? Anyone with common sense would have direct deposit or have someone [an accountant] handle all monetary affairs/transactions! Nuff said.

Comment: Mas90 and mandinka_99, I believe the primary reason is the money. I am old school from New York, so you know I lived at the Apollo. Took the A Train from Brooklyn, and it put me off just down the street from the Apollo. Saw all of the famous acts, both comedic and musical. Back in the day, these talented men and women made very little money. And yes, Barry Gordy paid those Motown icons very little money while he became filthy rich off their talent. Of course back in the 90's I read where the "brother" who produced and managed New Edition also ripped those kids off. After they would come off tour, the tour bus would drop them off in front of the projects in which they lived. To paraphrase Rick James, "money is a powerful drug."
