Comment: How come MJB only competes in the Soul/R&B categories and Alicia, Rihanna and Mariah are competitors in Soul/R&B AND pop/rock.
Never liked the AMA awards for just this reason.

Comment: I hope my girl MJB wins because she had a fab year and it seems like they always slight her when it comes to these awards shows...Alicia is cool too but I can't even really get into her music...I'm half-way there with her...frankly I can't even remember any songs from her last album????LOL

Comment: Happy for Alicia!! Always liked MJB. Rhianna, not my style but she is talented. Alicia is more of a mix of the pop & RnB worlds than MJB. They both are forces & deserve all kudos.

Comment: Kind of makes me long for the days of the musicians: Earth Wind & Fire, Cameo, the Commodores, Luther, Parliament/Funkadelic, Con Funk Shun, S.O.S. Band, Atlantic Star, etc. Thank goodness there was Mint Condition (and a few other honorable mentions) to help with getting through the 90s.

Comment: DC there will never be music like that again - we're stuck with the newbies and canned and borrowed beats, no real musicians and elementary lyrics. Don't paint a pretty picture does it?!

Comment: "...there will never be music like that again..." sad thought, McNasty, but you're probably right.

Comment: McNasty, I'm a new jack, but I agree with you. Truth be told the lyrics were very elementary a long time ago too. You just can't put that on my generation. LOL!

Comment: There is music out there with real musicians, lyrics, and singing. It's just hard as h*** to find. And even when you do, it sometimes still does not measure up to the old school. I think basically after a certain age, unless something sounds like something you liked in your formative years, you're not gonna like it. I think I read that by your senior year in high school, your musical tastes are pretty much set. Any thing that you end up liking the rest of your life has some kind of similarity to that time frame. That's why folks who finished high school before rap took off don't get into it. I was right on the border line - Sugarhill came out my senior year so fell on the in side of the rap fence. Other folks in my class or earlier didn't in general.
