Comment: FINALLY, a role befitting the MAJESTY of his acting talent. ROCK ON, WILL, and don't accept any more shi.tty roles like "Hancock."

Name: Luke_Cage
Comment: Awwww Grace12_34, I liked Hancock. I thought it was a different spin on the superhero genre. But I can understand why folks weren't feeling that role and movie. Too many plot holes and the dayum thing was just too fast. (98 minutes running time) That aside, his last couple of roles have been more of the serious side of Will's acting prowess. Something we hadn't seen since the likes of Six Degrees of Separation. This should be interesting though. But hell. I'm a big Will Smith fan so I'd see it just because the brother's in it!

Comment: I may sound like a hater (like anyone who prefaces a statement with that) but I am getting to a point w/Smith where I really can't separate him from his characters. What I mean is that he is at a point where no matter what the character, it's "Will Smith playing Joe Schmoe" and not just Joe Schmoe. Example - when Jamie Foxs played Ray, you actually forgot it was Jamie Foxx. I never forget it's Smith when he plays a role. There are a lot of actors/actresses who are like this for me - Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, etc. They are so strong themselves that you can't see past their celebrity to the character. I'm interested to see the new movie w/Pacino and DeNiro because they DO immerse themselves in their characters. You forgot in "Scarface" that dude is actually Italian and truly see him as a Cuban criminal. And in "Meet the Parents" DeNiro IS this overprotective jerk and not the cool gangster he plays so well. But hey, that's just me. I'm a very picky movie critique. I am on the fence about Denzel in this.

Comment: I see your point, queenie....the role sounds good, and, I would love to see Will to well with this one - sounds like a great premise...Will will have to continue to grow away from the "Will Smith" persona and totally become the character like you mentioned with the other actors, queenie - he still needs to work on that, because in the movie "Ali" I never believed Will was Ali, like, Ving Rhames was Don King, etc, etc, and other actors who trancendes the character 100%, I liked the movie Ali, somewhat, but, it was weak....

Comment: p.s., I did like Will's body in the movie Ali...........

Comment: >queenie, I have to agree. I feel the same way about Jack Nickleson and Robin Williams. Honestly I think most actors are fall into that category except for the really great ones. I do disagree about Denzel, especially with his earlier films like Free Freedom or the Mighty Quinn. He's able to give you different beliable accents, which is something even some of the best considered actors can't pull off.

Comment: Ancient/Egyptian history was always my favorite subject in school. Willard is a solid actor and I'm sure he will play the part well.

Comment: DOne... Ditto on Jack Nicholson and Robin Williams! They kinda play themselves over and over. (But Robin can play 'creepy' like no one else. Don't know where that comes from, but he makes me sleep with the lights on!) Gotta disagree with Queenie about Pacino. He used to be good, but now he just yells through every film. I guess it's his 'trademark,' but I can do without it:)

Name: Luke_Cage
Comment: lol@vroger2> He used to be good, but now he just yells through every film. Plus he's juicy mouthed. Always spraying people when he's yelling and talking in his dialogue -He does spend alot of time yelling though, but dammit, if Al isn't still cool.

Comment: should be interesting to see how the rest of the cast will be portrayed

Comment: This role will probably get him an Oscar.

Name: barnone
Comment: all i hope is his female counterpart is also a BLACK woman. i'm tired of seeing him cast next 2 a yt woman. as if there r no black actresses who can play the role, i.e. HANCOCK charlize theron

Comment: queeniebunz, interesting and honest comment. I know what you mean. I actually feel Denzel's best work was his earlier work. I actually have felt that Denzel has been repeating himself with these roles he's been doing for almost 15 years now. Aside from Soldier's Story, Training Day, Glory and a few others, I feel especially in the last 10 or so, we have gotten the same Denzel over and over. I actually feel Larry Fishbourne can outstretch Denzel in the acting department when it comes to doing well at a variety of roles. Onto Mr. Smith. I guess this Eygpt movie is to make up for the monstrosity that was "Hancock". I have said it before and I will say it again, Black Hollywood, could do Eygyptian Dynasty pictures for the next 30 years and more. They can take it Dynasty by Dynasty and blow our minds each time. So much history. In an ideal world I mean. We know what they are up against in Hollwood. Those stories of ancient Eygypt are fascinating and even in documentary form, they are usually portrayed by Europeans. Any fans of the late great Dr. John Henrik Clarke in the house and Ivan Van Sertima for starters? They would drop the knowledge on Kemet!Michael Jackson's Remember The Time Video was the first time I and I think the world has EVER seen Eygptians portrayed by Black People. Even though that was a music video, we need more of the truth in the images, that ancient Eygptians were people of color and not this foolishness that is "The Mummy" franchise/brand but the real stories of ancient Kemet! Hotep!

Comment: "TMan," nice to hear your kind of talking. Don't get talk about John Henrik Clarke, Ivan Van Sertima, and dare we say KEMET (aka Egypt) on this site. Great!! And it would be wonderful to see films on ancient African history hit the theaters. But it'll have to come from us because most of them won't dare touch it.
