Comment: board commenters have been agonizing over the language used by Banner and here's Exhibit B in the continuing fight about language: the cartoonist made his point without the use of the disparging vernacular about women but added it for extra punch . . . the extra punch is a knockout for the cartoonist as well as for AAs because many people who saw the cartoon filtered it through their negative images of AAs and concluded with something ugly . . . Rev. Sharpton spoke to AAs by saying: ". . . by romanticizing the "Don't Snitch" mentality it is encouraging the continuation of police brutality, racial profiling and the lawlessness of a corrupt society. The idea of making Blackness synonymous with thuggery and gangsterism is unacceptable." . . . the idea of AAs as thuggy gangsters is so ingrained that when the Newark college student murders first hit the news, there was a slight hesitancy at first about the character of the murdered just in case they were engaged in unlawful activity at the time of their murders . . . sigh

Comment: This is no surprise! What do you expect will EVENTUALLY happen when we allow the N-word and other misogynistic words against our people overall (and our women in general) to be marketed on a global scale? It was as easy to see this coming twenty years ago when C. Delores Tucker was trying to stop it. Dancing, bouncing, and singing to music that's straight disrespecting you and your people is just plain idiotic. We played right into the hands of White supremacy and racism by allowing things to get to this level. It's our fault and stupidity that led to this. Now we all see the results of it, so what will YOU do?

Comment: "I was making a point that rappers are demeaning to women," Gamble explained to The Florida Times-Union Sunday. If Mr. Gamble's statement is true, then the billboard in the cartoon sufficiently made the point and the additional dialog in the depiction is overkill. Really Mr. Gamble, do try and be more creative with your back pedalling.

Comment: To TRTR>>> One of the things I personally try to do is keep my responses to events such as this, elevated. My mom taught me that responding to trash with trash, made me no better that the perpetrators. I'm sure you had similar values instilled in you. I and several friends are developing programs in our localities that positively influence our young people. We will be affordable and accessible. I feel good about being in a position to do this and my circle of friends feel the same way. I know change is underway and that it is the result of personal philanthrophy, not government handouts.

Comment: So while your veins are bursting, your keyboard is being pounded in anger, another 14 year old girl is pregnant, several of our young men are being locked up, several others got released but cannot get a job, and there will be several more walking around outside with nasty grimy white t shirts and baggy jeans looking mean as you come home after working hard all day. Does anyone offer solutions?

Comment: interesting enough, the solutions start with individuals (you can lead a person to knowledge but you can't make him/her think) . . . whatever solutions are offered up, none will make a difference if there is no long term committment to them

Comment: I think the cartoon is on point and I applaud the artist for telling it like it is. The truth may be a bitter pill. but it is what it is, we've allowed this foolishness to become a part of our "culture" and now we're reaping what we have sown.
