Comment: regarding the last paragraph, it's 100% accurate.

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: blkATLTop> Of course it is accurate. Both sides have been brainwashed with negative stereotypes about the other. Black Americans need to understand that in terms of race, for instance, our African brethern don't have the same issues. The same with folks from the Caribbean. We don't take the time to know about each other. Instead, we allow other people to get in between us and fan the hate. We need to understand that regardless of where we are from, we DO have something in common.

Comment: Tell it, NYCSoul. We were birthed by heritage from the same continent, but ripped from the womb and scattered throughout.

Comment: Don't forget most Africans are extremely tribal and merely see us another another group to go to war against. Most come with the same attitudes as nonblack immigrants and seek to distance themselves from us except when it comes to benefits WE fought and died for. Look what has happened all over Africa, and they have the nerve to come here piggybacking off our gains and hate our guts at the same time. They welcome whites, now Asians, Indians and Lebanese to subjugate Africans in their own homelands and expect Blacks Americans to accommodate them the same way. It'll never happen. They will eventually find out about the white man but it'll be too late to build any kinds of coalitions with Blacks here. Too bad they didn't remain in their country to make it a better place rather than coming here to align themselves against us. And it won't be forgotten.

Comment: My people, my people--why are some of us so gullible? I was with a wonderful group of Africans and Africans born in the u.s.a. yesterday. I can't tell you how much joy we have together and how much love exist between us. Matter of fact, i had not even thought about the fact that Africans were at that gathering until reading the article to which we are posting. Until now, it was simply a gathering of beautiful Black people. Are there problems in some places between Africans and Africans called Americans? Sure, but it isn't massive and it is ridiculous for two post to say it is 100%. Time and time again false and/or misleading studies and statistics--some done by Black researchers--are published to manufacture divisions, dissensions, distrust, disunity, and dis-love among Black people. Feeding into the hype will prevent us from uniting and from growing our populations. Invariable, if you look beneath the surface of Black conflict (e.g., Black Panthers vs. US org, Rwanda) you will find a white hand with a wedge.

Comment: >MelodyCool, when have Africans ever welcomed whites into their homelands? Colonalism was forced. Its seemed that you carry the same sterotypes that NYCsoul mentioned. Both groups have been influenced by negative media images. Sure some may distance themselves, but some of us don't do a very good job of welcoming them either.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: DOne, they are doing it RIGHT NOW! Read up on Africa. You have no idea how revered whites and nonblacks are in Africa TODAY, but they eager to go to war with Blacks way before they set foot here. You're in for a very rude awakening. All skin ain't kin.

Comment: Africans are beefing with West Indians too: --> http://www.bbc.co.uk/caribbean/news/story/2006/05/0605 26_black.shtml --> A seemingly simmering rift between the UK's African and Caribbean communities apparently only needed a spark to ignite a full-blown raging debate on relations between the two.

Comment: >melodycool, of course Africans fight other Africans, but Asians fight other Asians, Europeans fight other Europeans, Arabs fight other Arabs, and so on, its call ethnic differences. Skin color as little to do with ethnicity outside of North America.

Comment: It's time for me to migrate to an deserted island. This country way to crowded already.

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: Melodycool> what do you call the bloods and the cribs? Isn't that 'tribal'? DOne is correct that every ethnic group fights each other. Why is this so 'unique' when it comes to us? I think you are making a sweeping generalization about Africans in general. Africa is a continent made up of 50 countries with more than a 1,100 tribes. Not all of them have the attiude that they are 'better' than African Americans here. I find that hard to believe that ALL Africans are despise Africans. If you watch alot of African movies, you'll see some African American influences, believe it or not. We don't like when people generalize us, why do this to our brethren?

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: Hey Mothership! You know deal. Keep us divided, conquered and fighting amongst ourselves. I wish some of us would wake up!

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: Oops! Sorry for missing the words & misspellings. I was typing too fast! :)

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: NYCsoul, you can't remotely compare the Bloods and Crips with what's happening in Africa. If you learn more about their tribalist believe you'll have a better understanding of why they "arrive" with a chip on their shoulders were Black Americans are concerned. What's interesting is they plop right down near us Black folks yet hate our guts even though they want to enjoy the spoils of "our" efforts. You're in for a very rude awakening and it won't be long before you realize how much these people despise you.

Name: whatdat
Comment: Just as we are 'spoon fed' propaganda to make us think the overwhelming majority of Africans hate us, what do you think is happening in Africa? The same forces are making them think we hate them. To make the divide easy to maintain, most of what is filtered to us (again, Black sources fall into the trap) about Africa is negative and vice versa. Let's see how it works. You all might have read or heard the reports that we are stingy (nothing but a lie). So what do you expect since that image is spread in Africa? To have the negative experience some Africans called Americans have had in restaurants there. They have been conned and we have been conned. White powers count on us to sleep on and fight on that they can continue to exploit and keep most Black nations and Black people in poverty.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: whatdat, I disagree. Please study this issue of "tribalism" a bit more and you'll understand what I mean. Some tribes "exist" for the express purpose of being treated like pariahs so that others can feel good about themselves. Since Black Americans do not feel inferior to Africans...therein lies the problems. I'm witnessing and experiencing the disconnect between Africans and Bland and have no intentions on reaching out any more than I've done already. It's time to circle our wagons and focus strictly on our "own" people which is what "everyone" else does. Black Americans have been gullible much too long!

Comment: I have had very good experiences when deally with Africans (men and women). And the discussions we have about life, politics, religion, and us coming together as one have always been so eye opening. I know there is a hostility between some of us but we can work it out. We need to work it out.

Name: whatdat
Comment: MelodyCool, i admit i know nothing about the particular aspect of what you term "tribalism". I like being informed, so can you tell me two or three sources to check?
