Comment: He makes one valid point, some artist should disappear for a minute (Beyonce) to let the anticipation build for the next project. However B has changed the game so much, she may be the exception to the rule. Times have changed though, the way the biz is now if you do disappear people forget about you (Toni Braxton, Brandy, Ginuwine, DMX) and they move on. Certain people can disappear and come back strong (Madonna, R. Kelly-love em or hate em, Jay-Z-a little questionable, but you feel me). I don't think 50 has it like that, but I was never a fan, so...

Comment: The industry goes in cycles, one minute you're hot, next you're not. 50 comparing himself to Em is not equal comparision. Though I believe 50 has built a strong fanbase and will always sell well, I think he's seen his prime or peak if you will in terms of sales and popularity as far as music goes. Em was and still is a niche artist, 50 isn't. Evident of that is him pushing back "Curtis" due to radio/TV being slow to pick it up. Once again, he'll do well but won't see 5-6 mil on a single release any time soon.

Comment: Star, I'm with you. I mean, how much of a shelf life does a "rapper" really have? A "singer" can sing well into their golden years, I don't see a rapper having that type of longevity. Especially rappers like Eminem and 50. Eminem can't possibly still be rapping about his wife and mother. And we already know how many times 50 was shot and how many cars he owns. What else is left for either one of them to say? LOL!

Comment: star - I agree. Icons can disappear and come back strong. 50 ain't an icon. Comparing himself to Eminem is risky. Eminem is rare -- a white rapper that sells. 50 tyoe rappers come a dime a dozen. If he takes a vacation for too long, he will be replaced and have to fight for position once again.

Comment: 50 is into the philosophy that "if it don't make dollars then it don't make sense." I see him trying to emulate what others have done, and it just might work, but when I think about folks like MC Hammer or Hammer (whatever!) and Mase, and MC Lyte, they took breaks to do other things and folks forget about them. And WTF is this about a greatest hits compilation? 50 hasn't been around long enough to have a greatest hits ANYTHING! How the hell can somebody who's been in the industry LESS THAN 10 years have a greatest hits CD? Prince can do greatest hits, Patti can do a greatest hits, Luther=greatest hits, hell, I'll even go as far as saying that Snoop can do a greates hits CD, but 50? It's way too soon!

Comment: Taking a break is a good thing if the purpose is self-improvement. Eminem has been on extended hiatus, this is true. But he did a bunch of dumb zhit while taking his 'break'; like trying to get back w/ex wifey? So, these guys can take a break but to expand on what Ginger said, take some courses, 50. Learn the scale; find out what a g-clef is; in other words, learn how to SCORE music, not just write rap lyrics. Oops, first you have to know what musical instruments are....can't depend on a 'synthesizer' if you're going to be scoring music!!!

Comment: Curtis has his imprint on more things than not. He could go away and 3 years later..reinvent himself, come back w/a banging album and he'll make mad dough. He apparently has the business acumen coupled w/the bravado to make sure he'll always be around. Ya'll be waiting for him to fall for sometime. BUT, he continues to stack paper. 400 million? Yeah..Fade to black some hell....

Comment: You all seem to forget that the fans of a lot of these rappers are mindless teens and twentysomethings and as long as this music pis.ses somebody off this man and all like him will be around for a long while. Regardless of any negative thoughts he's smart enough to keep enough interest among his fan base to not have to worry what it will be like when he comes again - and he will come again.

Comment: 50 is already having to get gimicky to garner interest. He was yapping on BET last night about voting for either of two songs you'd like to see him perform on the BET awards show. And once he get's on, what's he going to do? Sway side to side, occassionally swatting air with his free arm, boasting about money, women, cars, etc. Not exactly my idea of excitment. Now on the other hand it was annouced that Prince will be performing here in Minneapolis on 7/7/07. Of course the 7's are a little gimicky. But everyone considering going knows they're going to be entertained by a first-rate musician.

Comment: A lot of big artist go away for a minute. Look at the homey Dr. Dre. He makes albums like every 7 years. When he comes back, they sell. When you sell a grip of albums at first, people tire fast. Look at Nelly. He sold a grip of albums and he fell back. He's enjoying his money. He's TRASH, but he sold. 50, Em, or Nelly don't have to make another record or again.

Comment: He could reinvent himself into the person that all of you want him to be. A conscious respectable, hip-hop artist..like Master P *cough*... 50 has been out like what 6 or so years? Hot one minute gone the next would be Ja Rule, Ashanti, Chingy, Lil Scrappy, B2K, Lucy Pearl, Maxwell, etc. Not Curtis. He was hot from the mixtapes..and now still is. Stop playin...

Comment: Good luck with that, Fiddy. He's no dummy and this might just work in his favor. However, Em is more of a novelty than 50. Ain't too many white rappers w/ skills out there, whereas Black rappers are a dime a dozen. But, I know he'll be all right. He has that deal w/ vitamin water and his previous record sales are nothing to sneeze at. Doesn't he also have some sneakers out? He might duck outta the music scene for a bit, but trust, there'll be no grass growin' beneath his feet.

He has delayed his album to find some way to create buzz. This going away for a few years is the same thing also. He'll sell, but only platinum -- if that much. That album due in Feb ain't gonna sell isht imo.

You see what happened when he tried to go up against Luda...career ending..lol XAVI..all of what you said is true. But, it's an issue not isolated to just Curtis. Compare even John Legends 1st and 2nd. The follow up ain't doing too well. The difference w/50 is that he got his hands in enough to never have to depend on album sales ever again.

The sad part is, Luda didn't have to do anything to end Chingy's career. The entire public realized he was wack and he faded into oblivion. He still has money though.

Comment: McNasty - I don't think someone should EVER rely on a teen fanbase to bring you back after a hiatus. Britney Spears took a hiatus...now she's singing in small clubs with a bad wig....a teen fan base grows up and new teens aren't into ol' azz singers. LOL However, if 50 really does have a true fan base outside of the teens, then maybe. But he can't make it too long...or he'll have to borrow Britney's wig!!

Comment: Five 0 is on the decline. Oh and by the way, the sh*t that the other members have put out is GARBAGE! And I'm sure curtis will be GARBAGE as well. By the way, I don't think Ashanti is gone, yet. Dr. Dre' takes hiatus because he's busy producing other damn artist. You can't compare him to Dre'. He can't compare himself to Dre'. Here's a simularity between Em and Five 0, both of their rap styles sound TIRED & DATED! They both need someone to write for them.

Comment: Ladybyrd, LIES! Young Buck and Banks' first albums were tight. Their second albums were soso. Yayo's was trash, I agree. Mobb's album was lukewarm at best. YOu said 50's style was outdated, which rapper today has a "current" style. Sounds to me you're just madd at 50. For a person to hate the dude so much, you sure keep up with him and what he does. Go figure.

Comment: TesticAl > When I said the sh*t that the rest of the group put out is GARBAGE, I was speaking of their sophomore CD's and Yayo FIRST! C'mon Al...listen to his flow, that crap sounds like bits & pieces from the first CD. If he mention "In Da' Club" in one more damn rap, I may have to shoot you! LOL... I try to stay current on the latest sounds. Hip Hop is part of my generation. But this crap about Grillz, Prada, Ho's and try'in to conjure drama to sell your crap is TIRED, that includes Five 0! You really LOVE him, don't you? We've had this conversation before. This CD #s will be A LOT lower than his last. He's not talking about anything. It may help if he expands his vocabulary. Which I would include most of today's rappers. I'm just saying...
