Comment: I hope they are this proactive when some players say they hate nigg8rs, spics & wops. So what he hates gay people? His mistake was opening up his mouth and thinking someone really might want and benefit from his opinion. Duke the dog could smell that set-up a mile away!!

Comment: I am quite confused by the NBA's reaction...well, I am not stupid, they had to do something to save their public face. But the truth be told, on some levels, the majority of the NBA players (past, present and future) probably feel this way. I believe Mr. Hardaway's comments came forward a bit harsher than he realized or intended, but that is his opinion and he is entitled to that opinion. We all have our own opinions and if we'd accomplished something as has Mr. Hardaway wherein the public were interested in hearing our opinions, God only knows what we would say! I don't think Mr. Hardaway's expressions are going to limit or prevent any homosexual ball player from advancing in his career. Does Mr. Hardaway own a team? Is he the head coach of a team? Can he in anyway, shape or form prevent or eliminate a homosexual basketball player from excelling in his chosen career? Clearly, the NBA overreacted in this incident. As Nightshift mentioned in the preceding message, will they be as responsive the next time a player, coach, owner or affiliated person yells, "ni88er?" My thoughts are that we'd hear such language at any number of practice sessions, in the locker rooms or across dinner tables after the game....c'mon...get over it already!

Comment: What did Timm-Dog do besides speak his opinion? I didn't have a problem with what he said and damn sure didn't see any homophobia. Just didn't like the lame apology that he gave later. I wonder if it was someone like Nash that had said it if the same hell would have been raised. And John Amechie needs to sit down somewhere! He probably wouldn't have even said anything if he didn't have a book coming out. Talking about persecution. Oh, please!

Name: browntwo
Comment: And Mr. Stern, you've now set the standard. Please be just as proactive about vices out there.

Name: ChakaTee
Comment: Amaechi said, according to the Associated Press. "It creates an atmosphere that allows young gays and lesbians to be harassed in school, creates an atmosphere where in 33 states you can lose your job, and where anti-gay and lesbian issues are used for political gain. It's an atmosphere that hurts all of us, not just gay people." Oh Please! Amaechi has obviously been out of school for a long, long time. It's now the other way around at school. The gay kids are harassing the straight kids and trying to turn them out in many places. Gee, I wonder if Hardaway said "i hate ni99as would the nba have taken the same action."

Name: FiveMore
Comment: Let me get this straight!Say something homophopic about gays, you'll get sent to rehab or kicked off a sports show!OKAY! Mr.Orwell, Is that you I hear knocking on America's door?!!WOW!!Swift action is taken when glaad is direspected in this country.Something that makes you go HHHMMMM.*in my best Aresenio Hall's voice*

Name: leeneepoo
Comment: Browntwo, I too agree with the lame apology..he already knew that we as black folk get persecuted, called names and cocked blocked everyday all day. I wonder if "their" coalition is going to help him with his homophobic remarks? I truly don't care what the next person says or does..."it is what it is" and people's behaviors and ways of life can not be changed no matter how they try and other folk try to help them overcome..leave it alone; and keep it movin'

Name: TampaC
Comment: Okay, so the man was "expressing his opinion" representing a multi billion dollar industry, apologize through his agent, and not knowing who is paying his paycheck might be gay. Let's try this...take his comments, delete "Gay People" and put "White People" in his tirade and what do you think you'd get! Ignorance in this day and age is unacceptable. I would think that collectively we would be passed this crap. If he's uncomfortable that's one thing, but to say you 'hate'...leads to violence...he's an idiot. And That's My Opinion!

Name: Winn30344
Comment: Wonder if he'd included "God" in his statement would their be this uproar?

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: >Chaka, believe this or not...There's a high school in Raleigh, NC with a large gay population...A parent once told me that the gay guys target girls with low self esteen, befriend them, date them and then break-up with them...This opens the door for the lesbian girls to make the swoope...I couldn't believe that a grown woman was telling me this...She really believes this is happening...Me, I don't know...It sounds far-fetched, but hey, sh1t like this can happen...

Name: MsVanese
Comment: He expresses his opinion & gets dropped. Kobe is accused of rape & that isn't a disparity? Hmmmmm

Name: barnone
Comment: well i had his back until he said he was homophobic and hated gays. that's where the line i fell should be drawn. i am not an advocate of homosexuality. i think it is an unnatural act, but to hate someone or oppress them because of this i feel is wrong. furthermore, he really lost me when he came out with the pseudo apology. i respect a person more when they stand by what the say/feel whether it is popular or PC.

Name: McNasty
Comment: In order for these kinds of comments/feelings not end up in print the media need not be so curious as to how someone else feels about it. The interviewer should have been sanctioned for asking the damn question. Barnone, me too and now the gay mafia will forever be on his tail (no pun intended).

Name: barnone
Comment: mc> lol, u sure there's no pun intended?

Name: bigheadbull2
Comment: Why do you have to be phobic because you don't care for something? I hate suicide does that make deadaphobic? At least he was man(no pun)enough to say how he felt.

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: Perfect example of "LOSE LIPS SINKS SHIPS"! I guess now HE WILL go into REHAB *SMH* It was obvious he had no skills in dealing with an interviewer and he just let his lips flap. You can't let your lips flap when being interviewed because the world will know how you really feel. Has he been sequestered from the world and haven't heard the news and haven't heard about the "Gay Mafia" that will hold you in contempt and make you apologize and go into rehab? Well He11 he spoke his mind now he has to deal with it. Where is Kramer now??? :O) That "Kobe chick" had a few men's DNA in her Undies (nasty gurl) so to me there is no disparity

Name: barnone
Comment: bighead> my point exactly...why the term homophobic? a phobia is a fear of something, not a dislike or opposition to something. it's all a part of the gay campagin strategy though.

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: yoooooo I listened to the audio of him taking and he sounded gay as f*ck! Go When he says "I let it be known!" he sounds just like Miss Thang down the street. lmao hmm he might want to explore his feelings.

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: Damn I wish I hadn't have clicked on this board. It pains me to see black people support hate, animosity, dislike, or anything else toward another group. It's actually shocking given our history.

Name: Dante
Comment: He has his opinion but to hate someone for being different is not right and who is he to judge. You can't throw stone and did try to hide your hand.

Name: khufu
Comment: BROWNTWO I agree one thousand percent......NIGHTSHIT...now you know they aint even gon' do that! when it comes to protecting Black foks from derogatory sheet---they are hypocrites! Apparently Tim Hardway wasnt thinking or it has no political consciousness.....

Name: barnone
Comment: okay IJA> girl why u want 2 start stuff? got me running 2 hear the audio thinking i'm about 2 hear a throwback of the waynans bros. n living color. he did not at all sound gay 2 me.

Name: khufu
Comment: Imagine Clydre Frazier handing a question about a gay player...In tne middle of the arena, CLyde would have looked at the intervier, smiled and said :"There's my lovely mother---I havent seen her in three years." and walked away.....PR Savvy...diplomatic.....just plain azz smart and common sensical

Name: Angel
Comment: Bigheadbull - Ummmm, he said "I'm a homophobic!". That sounds crystal clear to me. LOL

Name: barnone
Comment: okay IJA> don't start that issh again. equating the black struggle to homosexuals. and so since we've been still r persecuted that means what, we're suppose to support everything with open arms. should we also support the pedophiles, the necrophiliacs. come on now.

Name: barnone
Comment: khufu> who is clydre frazier?

Name: Angel
Comment: McNasty - There's this thing that's been around for a while called "No Comment". It can be really effective when asked questions that you know will get you fired if you answer. LOL

Name: SpecialK
Comment: Tim Hardaway is an idiot who should have kept his mouth shut. Don't nobody care about who he don't like. I guess he never heard about the whole Isaiah Washington incident. Everything is not meant to be said. *TIP* If you don't have nothing nice or constructive to say in public, on camera, in front of millions, SHUT THE HELL UP!!! Its not that hard! Money can't buy class.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: OK..I'm absolutely FLOORED! How can seemingly intelligent people suggest that they see no problem w/Hardaways remarks? Or that it didn't seem homophobic? Did ne1 bother to hear ALL of what he said? "You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I'm homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States." What other way can that be intepreted than you hate someone and that you're a homophobe? I'm confused? Regardless of how we may feel about the "sin" of homosexuality, there should be no airwaves given to ne1 to publicly say they "hate" any law-abiding group of people. If a popular Muslim leadersaid he hated Christians...people would be outraged. If ANYBODY said they hated blacks...we would be outraged. I don't care how we may feel in the comfort of our homes...publicly stating it is foolishness and you should have to deal w/the consequences of those actions. Saying that you think homosexuality is wrong is an "opinion." Saying you "hate" something is not. If that's the case then why in the hell were blacks "calling for the head" of Michael Richards when he expressed his "opinion" or when Trent Lott expressed his "opinion." HE said he was HOMOPHOBIC so how can we rationalize that he isn't what he SAID he is? What in the FK is going on in our irrational minds people?

Name: HHCassius
Comment: barnone -- just an etymological point -- phobia means fear OR hatred of something...

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Isiah was the test case. He, seemingly, was spared for his lack of judgment. But, Hardaway has no excuse and his IGNORANT azz should not be allowed to represent the NBA nor any other group/organization in the near future.

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: On the subject of homoPHOBIA for those who are homophobic, I have a question...what is your punk azz afraid of?

Name: prettieyez
Comment: I don't have a problem with his comments. That's his right he has to live with it. I don't think his comments or no worse than Paris Hilton stating in a video calling homos "fags" and also stated someone was dancing like a ni$$$r? Has she been banned from anywhere??? NOOOOOOOO she has not. She can call people fags and Ni$$$$r and don't skip a beat. I'm not saying that I hate gay people. All I'm saying to each his own. If they like being gay I love it! I could care less if they are gay or straight just don't come to me with that crap. I'm not interested. I like menzzzz!!!

Name: barnone
Comment: herbs> could you clarify who exactly u r directing your post to, b-cuz i got the impression that most here felt the way he responded to b, shall we say, a bit extreme. the hatred part and all.

Name: HHCassius
Comment: And about how "they" are hypocrites...why SHOULD GLAAD be proactive about people calling black folk neggah and such? It's GLAAD, not BAAD. Why can't black people and leaders speak for themselves? Why folk always waiting on 25/20 to do it for us?

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: Later for Hardaway. Please somebody tell me, has Paris Hilton had to go to rehab for using the N word? Has she had to offer a public apology? Have they put her through all the sh*t they put Isaiah Washington through for sayin' f****t? Screw Paris (who hasn't?), Hilton hotels and everything associated with 'em. On a lighter note... Speakin' of Frazier, everytime I listened to that man, I'd learn a new word. He'd have me runnin' for the dictionary. I thank you Walt, for sharing your vast vocabulary with the masses, lol.

Name: barnone
Comment: HH> pls enlighten me. who or what is 25/20?

Name: yunvme
Comment: I'm so tired of people not being able to speak their mind. Dont we have freedom of speech? Anyway, I think the difference between these public figures and regular folk is the fact that these are PUPLIC figures. Being such, you are expected to conduct yourself in a certain manner. Thats the key in these type of situations.

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: Y'all are bringing up some good points, esp. about the unequal application of disciplinary actions. Esp. the Kobe reference.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Bar..they are directed at ne1 who 1)suggested that they had no problem w/his comments 2)He had a right to express his opinion 3)They don't see his rant as homophobic 4)Will the NBA do the same if he had said n1gger. I'm referring to those posters

Name: FiveMore
Comment: Dovely->If Kobe would have sexually %*$aulted a white gay male,he would still be in jail now! They are not thinking about women(black or white).

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: I bet when that NY shooting happened with that guy Sean Bell, white people probably wondered if the black mafia i.e. NAACP, black leadership was comin lol. Y'all want somebody to jump to YOUR cause when you feel offended but when another group defends its cause, they are the "___mafia"...going into rehab was a CHOICE made be Isiah Washington and Michael Richards. It was THEIR way of making amends suggested by their PUBLICIST, not by the 'gay mafia' whatever the f*ck that means. It's standard Hollywood/political practice. Mark Foley did it. Ted Kennedy's son did it. It's the new way to get away with sh!t, I'm sure GLAAD thinks it's ridiculous as well but they can't say it. No one gives a f*ck about Paris Hilton but I'm sure if she was representing a BILLION dollar industry like the NBA and publicly called someone a n!gger or a f@ggot she would be held accountable with no doubt. But let's not confuse namecalling with saying you 'hate' a group.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: LOL @ IJA>When I heard his interview I thought the same thing. I'm like dude you might wanna put some b%*$ in your voice while you're talking about how much you hate gay people.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: I had a friend who carried on the same way Tim did. Come to find out he was on the DL.

Name: barnone
Comment: OKAY CAN SOMEONE PLS TELL ME WHO OR WHAT 25/20 IS? SOUTHERNBELLE> now your're being stereotypical. not all straight men have deep voices.

Name: rayne
Comment: Sorry people, in this country we have Freedom of speech, it is the concept of the inherent human right to voice one's opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment.

Name: gingerg
Comment: I'm with Prettieyez on that. Why does a tramp like Paris Hilton get a free pass after using racial slurs on tape? No one is sending her to counseling or preventing her from getting her party on. I get so sick of the double standards sometimes.

Name: Angel
Comment: yunvme - The constitutional right to freedom of speech deals with the government's restriction on persecuting someone for their speech. Did I miss something? Was Hardaway arrested for his comments?!? Hardaway works for the NBA. They have every right to fire someone who they think does not represents them or their views. Just like someone has the right to say how they feel, others have the right not to support them or employ them if they don't like their position.

Name: rayne
Comment: barnone >25/20 is a term that is used to talk about white people.

Name: barnone
Comment: IJA> i disagree. albeit hilton does not rep any specific industry, she still is considered to be a "fashion icon" and is very much a public figure. i think you r deluding yourself if you think the double standard 4 blacks and whites does not still exist.

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: Barnone, 25/20 is something I learned once I started hangin' out here. It means white folks. Ya ever see here on the eurweb boards "YT" (whitey)? Same thing Y and T bein' the 25th and 20th letters of the alphabet.

Name: barnone
Comment: thank you rayne> what is the origin, if u don't mind.

Name: barnone
Comment: wow! blk folk r so creative!

Name: browntwo
Comment: Re: ImJustAsking, I'm not homophobic; but, you say what are they afraid of? What are gays afraid of? They're the one's in the closet.

Name: Angel
Comment: rayne - That's not what the constitutional right of freedom of speech is. The government can't persecute you for voicing your opinion. HOWEVER, the public can decide not to support you (that's their right) and your employer can decide not to employ you (that's their right). Hardaway can say what he wants, but that doesn't mean the NBA has to employ him or he can't be boycotted/blacklisted by others.

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: Browntwo> Maybe gays are afraid of people with the Hardaway attitude.

Name: DOne
Comment: >Angel got it right. For those of you talking about freedom of speech, it only applies to the government not restricting speech, more so political speech. Your employer can do whatever they want. All freedoms also come with responsibility. You might be free to say whatever you wish, but you have to deal with the consequences. As for Paris Hilton, the blk community has itself to blame for the lack of backlash against her. A lot of popular rap artists continue to socialize with her, and blk folk continue to buy those same artist cds and concert tickets and allow their music to be played on blk radio stations so we are partly to blame. If we want things to be done on our behalf when we are offended then we need to organize instead of just whining. There is no reason to be mad at others groups who do organize, be mad at ourselves for not organizing.

Name: Winn30344
Comment: How can you defend gays while calling posters "punk azzes" which is still a deragatory term to describe gays?

Name: barnone
Comment: done> cosign...black people need 2 b more proactive instead of reactive.

Name: yunvme
Comment: lets make it clear. Perhaps I didnt in my previous post. I know the difference between you constitutional rights and "working for an organzition". I know there are certain things you cant say at work. This is why I alluded to "public figures". Anyway, everyone cant be PC all the time. Sometimes you just want to speak your mind. The mature thing to do however, is to think before you speak.

Name: OSUN
Comment: Is this a case of the gay mafia strikes again that some post about?

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: browntwo< are you serious? what are gays afraid of? hmm they are afraid of the actions of people who hate them. They are afraid of being ostracized in a neighborhood, not being able to buy a home, being turned away from jobs, being shunned by their families, being beat up, and generally made to feel inferior. Does that help?

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Ginger...I never actually heard the phrases Paris said. But, if she was on tape talking about how much she hated n1ggers and they shouldn't be in the world..then yes, it would be a double standard. Also, I'm not sure what industry she represents other than herself. BAR...I think u r recreating double standards. Do you recall what happened when Trent Lott made the comment about Strom? Or MRichards? Although not the case w/Hardaway, are you aware of EEOC laws? If you were white..and referred to your black co-workers as n1ggers or stated that you hated Jews...not only does the offended party has a right to file a claim..there are gov't enacted laws to ensure that you are dealt w/. THAT'S not a double standard...it's the law.

Name: browntwo
Comment: Katgrrrl> What's the Hardaway attitude? Speaking one's mind? What's wrong with that? At least they know where he stands now. Like I said before, I don't have a problem with what he said, just that lame azz apology. The only gays that bother me are the ones that try too hard to be feminine. No woman that I know is that flamboyant.

Name: browntwo
Comment: IJA> Kinda like blacks huh? But it seems taht you don't have a problem with that.

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: barnone< Paris can't represent the fashion industry. Now, if she was contracted with a particular designer, that's when her words would matter. Plus a lot of black folk aren't on the internet during the day and they're not watching entertainment channels so there are plenty of us that don't know enough about her or who she is to get riled up. Unlike Michael Richards, who, even if blacks don't know him, they know the name Seinfeld.

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: Browntwo< you are being utterly ridiculous. I can care about two groups at the same time, I believe it's called multitasking.

Name: Stephanie
Comment: Doesn't he have freedom of speech? The KKK tells us all they time they hate ni@@ers so what's the difference? If that's how he felt, then that's how he felt. No offense to gay people but it is sickening when they try and force us to accept gay lifestyle like is normal behavior. I guess this freedom of speech only works for Peckerwoods, oh, I forgot, they didn't have blacks in mind when they wrote the Constitution.

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: Browntwo> I see nothing wrong with anyone speakin' their mind. That's a good thing. But, you have these people who have that hatred in their hearts and take it that one step further i.e. gay bashers.

Name: browntwo
Comment: IJA> You're right. I'm am being ridiculous. You can "multitask". That's your right.

Name: Angel
Comment: yunvme - It's not just about public figures. Regular folk get fired everyday for making offensive comments. Just recently at my job a guy was fired because at an industry conference he made an off-color comment about a handicap colleague (who wasn't even present) and his abilities. A couple of clients sitting at the table later sent a letter to our CEO pulling their accounts stating that our company doesn't represent the type of ideals that they are looking for. When our company got to the bottom of the issue and found out that someone representing our company made such stupid comments at a business function, he was fired that day...we got the accounts back. LOL Bottomline, dude can say what he wants, but I hope he's financially secure because he won't stay employed long by voicing such unpopular opinions.

Name: DOne
Comment: Lets be real people. None of us go around speaking our minds 24/7. We are social animals; we require interaction with others to live. If everyone spoke their mind all of the time there would be no society just kaos. We constantly censor ourselves on a daily basis, we do it around our coworkers, families, friends. A wise man knows when to speak and when to shut up. Hardaway isn't a wise man. simple as that

Name: yunvme
Comment: Question for everyone. Is it ok to hate as long as you dont "act" on your hate and let it manifest into something harmful to another person-or yourself for that matter. The song goes: what the world needs now is LOVE sweet love. "Love" is universally accepted as a good thing. But can we deny the natural opposite side of the coin? If humans can love, then it is in them to hate also? Like I started out asking: is "hating" OK just as long as it doesnt turn into something that could harm mentally or physically- someone else?

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: IMO, Paris represents her family. They raised the little fugly demon-chile heifer! They're rich because people patronize their hotels, Hilton Hotels. As far as I'm concerned, I'll NEVER stay at a Hilton again. Durin' my honeymoon, we stayed at the Hilton on Sunset Boulavard. If I'd known then what I know now, we woulda stayed at the Argyle across the street.

Name: MrUnapologetic37
Comment: I want to thank everyone on this board for forcing me to develop a thick skin and not be offended by the some of the foolish and EMBARASSING things we say. One would never ever know that we were once a race of people oppressed, murdered, killed and degraded simply because of the color of our beatiful black skin. And HELL NO - before anyone starts to talk shyt - I ain't making any type of side by side comparison of civil rights to gay rights. I'm a promoter of human rights - please know the difference. Tim Hardaway is a idiot - it's plain and simple. If what he said is how he felt and thought it was okay to be so blatant about it absent any forethought about the ramifications - then I can't feel sorry for him as the smack down takes over. He did this to himself - free speech or not; It's simple cause and effect. What's sad is that we are the same people that overlooked Paris Hilton's SECOND racist comment - when in fact whe should have united and pushed her frail azz off the planet (but I won't digress). We're the same people who chose to argue "the appropriate use of the N-word" when we should have been ready to fight. We're not being smart right now thus where we are today. Does ANYONE find it extremely interesting that the homosexuality issue has been a reoccuring issue on this board lately? It's time we address it. It's time to look at our fears, our misunderstanding, our concerns, our faith as it relates to this issue and so forth. Let's not miss our queue to become better, more God-like people who don't indulge in trashy finger-pointing and blame. That my unsolicited two cent!

Name: DOne
Comment: The problem with hate, yumvme, is that it is a slippery slope. if hate grows it cannot be held in check, it will eventually lead to violence every time. we see the results of hate everyday when we turn on the news. so I would say that although hate is natural (sometimes hate is even good), but eventually it will always lead to destruction one way or another, so no its not okay.

Comment: LOL Walt CLyde Frazier is an NBA name from the past that is often use as symbol of class in sports...gentleman...classy...represents a by gone era in NBA and sports period...my reference to him was intended to compare generational differences

Comment: Sorry barone> I didn't mean it to be offensive. But as a sat there and listened to his foolishness I was expecting to hear a Gerald Levert type voice and what I heard was a pre-puberty Ralph Tresvant. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't past judgement on man based on his size, height, voice or other. But, Hardaway's putting it out there like he's a manly man and spewing hatred towards men who he considers not. Then I say, at least, while he's sprouting hatred he could sound more "manly" and less like the men he supposedly hates.

Comment: Is this not about workplace tolerance? Tim Hardaway WORKS for the NBA. If you don't like the people you work with, then LEAVE. He should have kept his mouth shut! He'll never kno how many gays he has come in contact with in and out of the business world.

Comment: Everyone has the right to think and feel what they like, but with freedom of speech comes consequences. He should have known saying such inflammtory things would cost him his job. I'm mad at him not for his bigoted statements but for being incredibly stupid. Where has he been for the last decade? The only thing I hate more than dumb azzes are flies.

Name: Angel
Comment: yunvme - Ironically, the harmful things you mentioned about love all stem from self-hate issues. Like they say...there's a thin line between love and hate.

Name: yunvme

Comment: >Stephanie, an opposing view would be to have straight people telling Gay people they need to be straight, or assuming that they are if they behave a certain way that makes you uncomfortable or dont have "enough b%*$ in their voice". My opinion again; why would Hardaway have so much time to hate on Gay people...No one is getting to the real core question regarding his sentiments, but apparently for those who agree with his opinion...you have a "new spokesperson, congratulations!

Comment: And we wonder why Black women are the highest susceptible group to contract HIV. Black folk and homophobia go hand in hand judging by most of the comments on this board. As long as we remain ignorant, and spew hateful things about others based off of what we THINK we know, folk will continue to be afraid to admit they are gay and the DL community will continue to thrive, consequently causing disproportionate afflictions in Black male/female relationships. I am so sick of black folk saying Don't compare "gay rights" to black folk "civil rights"--when NO ONE has the lock on misery. When your quality of life is threatened based off of how you look/race, your physical capabilities, your age, your gender, or your lifestyle-then your HUMAN rights are being violated. PERIOD. Its so many ignorant muthafuckkas in the black community, no wonder we can't get ahead.

Langston Huges, Alvin Ailey, Brabara Jordan, Luther, Countee Cullen, Angela Davis, Alice Walker, etc. etc. etc. Also, not to mention the number of Black leaders who have spoken out about this type of oppression and intolerance. http://www.nbjcoalition.org/about/supporters.html Go figure?

Comment: >yunvme - No. It is not good to hate anyone, no matter what they do or have done. It is a destructive emotion that wastes energy that could be used constructively. I don't agree with what Hardaway said because I don't think you should hate anyone. As a Christian, we are taught to love the sinner and hate the sin. I will ask this question that a coworker and I were discussing yesterday around this issue - I told my coworker about what was said on here yesterday and that y'all were slamming me for saying that I don't agree with the gay lifestyle because of my religion. He said he doesn't either but that there is a better way to say it. So I will ask y'all-what if he had said, "I don't agree with his [Amaechi's] lifestyle."? Would he still have gotten this backlash? And, can you say that? And what way would be respectful to gay people? Do you just have to agree with them or can you say - no. I don't support what you do? Can you say what you think in this country that spouts "freedom of speech"?

Comment: As a gay person, I guess what you could say is . . . nothing (crickets) because why would you be commenting on my life anyway other than to compare how I pay my bills, taxes, raise my children, eat, go to the grocery store, mow my lawn, go on vacation, work everyday, volunteer in my community, go to church, live and die in exactly the same way that you do. I don't see how anyone could be commenting on my life (not lifestyle) because it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone else.

Comment: Mer82..unfortunately THAT's the larger issue. The fact that we don't want to deal w/this as if homos are going to to become extinct is a HUGE problem. One of my boyz and I were doing the couples things recently and my girl and I suggested that we go to this restaurant in Dupont Circle (well known area for homos in DC). Long story short..they cancelled. She becuz her religion dictated that she should not be in such areas. He bcz he can't stand being around homos. That led to a larger "debate" about "what is their issue." My girl and I go there ALL the time bcz they have great restaurants and even WE have long acknowledged that black people/couples are rarely seen there. BUT, you not just have yt "couples" who dine in the area but entire yt FAMILIES..tourists and all. Something is just REALLY wrong w/us and I don't get it. *scratching head* Uhm...I had a point w/this story but I 4got.

But when you say you HATE a segment of the population, then know that that segment will try to shut you down. The NBA is a business with gay fans, gay players, hell maybe even gay team owners. Tim is free to hold his opinions and to speak his mind and the NBA is dissassociate itself from his comments.

Comment: queeniebunz - Personally, I think it's fine to say you don't agree with the gay lifestyle because of your personal beliefs. Homosexuals should be respectful of the fact that others may not agree. However, that disagreement of beliefs should not lead to discrimination (in most cases) or abuse. I say in most cases because I believe a religious organization should have the right to discriminate in certain cases based on their beliefs (i.e. be able not to hire a gay pastor or perform gay marriages).

Comment: Yunvme> love your question. Is it okay to hate as long as you don't act on it? Hate's a really strong word. I don't want to hate anybody. I certainly don't hate gays. They throw the best parties! I can dislike someone, but it'll be on a personal basis. You gotta give me a reason to not like you. I'll not just dislike you just cos you're of a certain group. I'm not tryin' to sound like I'm perfect or running for Jesus or anything cos I'll admit, I do have a problem with illegal immigrants who come here, don't learn english, try to cut the line in the supermarket/to get on the bus, go through my garbage on recyling day to take the bottles for the 5 cent deposits and don't tie the bags back, who make me make two trips down to the lobby to get my lunch cos they don't understand when they're being told to come to the area where I have to sign the receipt and pick up my lunch... Yes, it's personal. I won't say I hate these people. I dislike 'em...quite a bit. The only time I acted on it was when one jumped ahead of me to get on the bus and I stepped on the back of her foot (oops!).

Thats why sometimes I just let life take care of its self. You know what goes around comes right back around. I dont need to argue the human rights issue till I'm exhausted, cause sooner or later these people against it will have to deal with it for real. Question for ya: how did you find out about their son? Did you see him "out" or did he feel comfortable enough with you that he felt he could share.

Comment: Mus B-and Planet Rock --that is what I am saying. It all goes back to being true to yourself. If there is something you don't like about yourself, and/or you are taught intolerance-then when the very thing you are taught to hate rears its "ugly" head in your life--there you go--denial, hatred, anger, and everything ugly will come out. Avoiding something does not make it go away-it only makes the very issue stronger. It will manifest itself one way or another. If you don't wound up with "gay tendencies" then it could be your child, your favorite uncle, or your loving mentor or parent. Then what do you do? Everyone knows someone who is homosexual, I don't care who you are. You can rant and moan about it all day and night. They aint going nowhere. That is why there is no point to hating anyone. Its not Godly, check yourself before you continue to wreck the Black community.

Comment: Personally, I think homosexuality is not natural. But that's me. I feel the same way about abortion: it's wrong but every woman ultimately has the right to choose for herself as it is her baby IN her body. She has the right and power to exercise FREE WILL and FREE CHOICE as a gay person has the right and power to choose for themselves what they are to do with their lives---their time--spnt on Earth. Then there will be a "judgment" by the Creator who made them, gave them life and gave them free will. I dont have the right to judge a gay person. My mandate is to love a gay person as a person and as a child of God. I especially dont hate them as that is against the Divine Mandate. Now, does Tim Hardway have the right and Free Wil to hate and express that hate---sure he does. But there are social consequences. Should he be penalized for his exercising his right of Free Speech? Hmmmm, now that's an interesting question.

Comment: Actually HHCassius the definition of phobia is a persistent, irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous. Phobia does not mean HATRED. So you are incorrect when you post that both fear and hatred are a definition of phobia. That being said I think Hardway should have kept his comments to himself. I am one of those "who get tired of people comparing the struggle of gay rights to that of civil rights". A gay man or woman can go to work, etc without anyone knowing they are gay unless they told you. A black person cannot hide the color of their skin. One poster said that as a gay person why would their lifestyle be of anyone's business and I agree. Why does the gay community feel a need to publicize their sex life? Because that's what we're really talking about here. Is someone's sexual preferences. Someone's sexual preferences is their own business. I don't agree with the gay lifestyle but I don't hate gay people. I don't like seeing two women or men caress and/or kiss in public so I can see why someone might want to avoid a restaurant mostly frequented by gay couples. I have a gay relative that brought his "partner" to a family reunion and wanted to stay in my uncle's house. My uncle told him that he and his "friend" would have to go to a hotel. I agree. You cannot force your lifestyle on someone else. How you choose to live your life is your business but I don't want to be bludgened over the head with this new embracing of the homosexual agenda. And there is definately an agenda to push their lifestyle on society. Their strong arm tactics with the Isiah situation, their strong push to get homosexual books into the public school system (i.e., "Daddy's New Friend"), etc.

Comment: I'm just curious, what do people mean when they say "I don't agree with the gay lifestyle?" Do you mean you don't accept or condone the fact that people are gay? Just curious? Cause it's got me wondering whether, I as a gay person, "agree" with the straight lifestyle. Other than who straight people love, they seem to be exactly like me. In fact, I was created by a Black straight couple and raised to be honest about all aspects of my life, to contribute to society and love everyone, even those who don't understand or "agree" with me.

Comment: >musbdherbs You made a beautiful comment that speaks some of my sentiments. I don't know anybody on this board that has the right to judge anybody. We all have skeletons in our closets. What has happened with this generation of athletes/performers etc is that they have no class, you have a influx of people who were not reared to show others respect or to be tolerant of things that you don't uderstand. Shakespeare said it best "thou protest too much" it leads me to blieve that he had unresolved sexual issues or that he is smokescreening and may even be on the DL. At any rate if you put it out there negatively then expect whatever the results are. My grandmother best coined it this way, "don't nothing hurt a duck but his bill." And Lincoln further stated and these applies perfectly to this situation, "it is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Publicly speaking of hating anyone particularly when you are in a position of some prominence shows no class. One of my mom's favorite sayings "You don't have to say everything you think." As far as Tim being pulled from the NBA festivities, it's only right. If I made those comments at work, I'd be disciplined. A microphone in your face doesn't give you carte blanche to be ignorant. You still have the option to STFU!

Name: DOne
Comment: question to fairydust you asked why does the gay community feel a need to publiczie their sex life? Now, that the real problem. People can't get pass the sex. However, is it really about sex or is it about the ability to do things that you and I take for granted. The ability to chat with coworkers on Monday mornings about what you did over the weekend; the ability to tell the world whenever someone sweeps you off you feet; the ability to put photos of family and friends, and you SIGNIGANT OTHER on your desk at the office. As a black male working in a predominate white environment a lot of times I feel like I simply can't be myself. I don't fit in in some ways, but at least to a degree I have the option of explaining things why topics come up in which I see things differently because I'm blk, but its gets tiring at times. So I can only imagine if there was a whole side to myself that I had to side. I think people often fail to really get to know their gay relatives because they can't get beyond the sex, then gay people end up shutting their families out, even when the families are somewhat tolerant. I've seen it happen twice in my own family. years ago I had a cousin in Chicago who was gay, his parents basically took the position of i don't want no part of that life. Make a long story short, they didn't speak to him for years, he died, and his mother hasn't been the same since because she has to live with the guilt of shutting him out and not being there. I also had a cousin in BR who was gay. She came out. Her father, my 1st cousin acted a fool. Didn't speak to her for over a year. Luckily in this case they made up. at his bday party a couple of years ago she and her partner was there. Everyone had a great time. its was a great thing that they got pass it because 2 days later she died of a brain anaerism (spelling). basically people just want to be loved and accepted for what they are, whether it me as a blk man, you as a Christian, someone else as gay. I disagree with a lot of Christian beliefs, but it doesn't impact how I feel or interact with my family members who hold those believes nor do they have to hide their believes when they are in my presence.

I believe my opinion is irrelevant to those who chose to live their life that way. Just like there many other things I don't agree with but I don't reflects my beliefs on others. Just like Angel noted her mother may not agree with the way she lives her life but allows her to do so as she pleases. I would only voice my opinion to a love one if I thought they were living a risky lifestyle and being gay is IMO not a risky lifestyle. Just like I mentioned my favorite author is James Baldwin and my favorite activist is Angela Davis. I don't even recognize their gayness. That's not what's important to me but I respect that it's important to them. It's the same respect that I give to the average person whether gay or straight. You do you and I'll do me.

Phobia - definition includes "strong aversion or dislike," which means "hate" to me. Tim Hardaway has a right to free speech AND career suicide. Nobody should be arguing whether he should be allowed to speak his mind. But also, nobody should be arguing whether the NBA should have to continue paying him while he speaks his mind. The NBA pays Hardaway to speak on basketball issues, not social issues that entail a basketball player. He went way overboard and it's well within the NBA's right to distance itself from him. And for those of you out there who seem to forget the civil rights movement (not comparing it to gay rights)...just inser "Nigg--" in the place of homosexual and you have the NBA in 1945...don't get it twisted.

Comment: Well,Well I can't begin to speak about all that I've tried to read on this board.First let me say that Tim Hardaway should have been dismissed just as he was.His like's or dislikes of Gay people are his problem. But it becomes a Public problem when he reps a big organization like the NBA,why?Because there are a lot of us Gay people all up and thru the NBA and out. We also go to Sports events as well and if you have someone in your employ who HATES any one group of people then he/she needs to go and I applaud the NBA.I do believe that Hardaway has some issues, now whether they be GAY issues or another he will have to deal with it on his own and now it will cost him everything because of the comment. How quickly we forget about that Preacher who came out against Gay Marriage, spewing his hatred at the Pulpit and come to find out he was having a 3yr sexual relationship with a man.I keep hearing everyone speak of what is "Normal",well is it Normal for a Black Athlete to have the mother of his child Murdered because he did not want to pay child support or maybe it's the Husband who demands that his wife have Anal and Vaginal sex with him and one of his friends. And for those of you who seem to think that we Gay people are forcing our lifestyle's on you.Get real!Nobodys forcing anything on you nor are we asking you to accept it ,but we do ask that you Respect it.And that you will because we are here to stay and we are getting more powerful by the day.I'm not a Heterophobic but I can say that your lifestyle is not all that great these days. What with men abandoning the women who choose to have their children or the Brothers who no longer want Shaniqua but would prefer Becky. I've never seen such hatred from a people who are continusly Ostracized everyday.I am a proud African-American Lesbian and I live my life to the fullest.I have a 15yr relationship under my belt, a Beautiful home and a Woman who Loves and cares for me and my family deeply. And for those Women out there who seem to think that a Gay woman may want you and you respond by saying I like mennss.Good for you because I really don't think you would have what it takes to be with another woman.Oh by the way Mr-unapologetic,thank-you for your Comments it was so needed.Peace and Blessings.

Comment: What about that kid you grew up with who always acted like a girl? Whose daddy was a macho guy, and ended up hating his son for being a sissy? Did that guy make a choice to be ostracized? Marginalized? Hated? This is about male homosexuality, not homosexuality in general, due cheifly to the spread of AIDS in the Black community. Guys hide their sexuality because they don't wanna face the kind of hatred that Hardaway spewed on public radio. The guy I am speaking about was the brother of one of my childhood friends; we always knew that Darryl was gay, and wasn't going to be anything else BUT gay his whole life. He arched his eyebrows, and wore Chic jeans to school. What good was gained by his daddy hating him? PEACE.

Sometimes I really just want to knock the fk outta both of his parents just for being ignorant. How can anybody deny their child such an opportunity is beyong me. He's already decided that he's moving as far from home as possible when he goes to college...california maybe. Stella..WOW! hats off 2 u. On another note....lol...B'ROD said "chic" jeans..LMBAO...

Comment: OSUN>I'm not sure what your asking.I was referring to an entry on this board made by several people both male & females. But the female comments stuck with me.One says she does not want to be around us,but if we are she wants it to be known that she likes men.A true lesbian will never pursue a straight woman or bi-sexual and just because we like women it does not mean we're out sniffing around every woman we see.And i applaud you for liking dique as you so elequontly put it,and also for having a mouth as well. But i was not talking sexaully,i was talking compassionately. I'll let you into my private life for a moment,I had a woman come into my life about 26 yrs ago.She was straight and had never been with a woman but she had been man crazy. But she became very taken with me,and that was without sex. We became very close and pursued a relationship, but because of multable lovers and not using protection she almost killed both of us.She came to me not knowing that one of her male lovers gave her "VD",which was very popular back then.I'm saying this to say that we Gay women don't need nor want you straight women. And stop being so mean about it.And as for your having a mouth, pls.keep using it on the men that may love it because a Lesbian would not dare go there.I had a friend and former lover who was torn between both lifestyles and because of her dilema she and her husband and baby are DEAD.He brought home AIDS to her,Where did he get it?it was from a woman who also had a mouth that went down on him and he in turn brought it home to my friend and their unborn child.Enough said, I pray for everyone.Peace and Blessings

Comment: WOW! That's all I can say about Tim and his stupid azz comments. He should know better. He played right here in the Bay Area. And I think we have one of the largest Gay populations in the world. Anyways, I get you Stellababy when you say that Gay women don't pursue straight women. I've played basketball on most levels--from junior high to Pro-Am and I cant begin to tell you the percentage of Lesbian women out there (try 60-70%). But never ONCE has one tried to "hit" on me. I say it is what it is. Do you.

Comment: YLawdY> Dayum, I'm sittin' here screamin' at the top of my lungs, "DAMN RIGHT"! What you said is so (sad, but) true! And, I respectfully say to all of you who say that Paris doesn't represent any company that I could see if she was in no way, shape or form related to the family who owns the Hilton hotels. But, she is of that family. To me, she represents her family and their business(es). I, for one, will keep my Black azz and my Black dollars the kcuf outta her family's hotels.

Comment: Though it is sad that in this day and time there is still yet so much hatred projected toward difference and indifference in this society, I honestly feel that had this man been white, he would have only recieved a suspension from the league and not termination. However being a black man in America, he should have known better than to blurt out such discriminating remarks against another. This patricular opinion, he should have kept to himself. This is still America and everyone is still entitled to their own opinions as long as they don't verbalize them openly; isn't this how it really goes? What has happen is so unfortunate. There is really great power in the spoken word. One can speak a twenty second statement that my have a twenty year effect on anothers life. I bet he would give anything to unspeak those words. How irresposible!!!

Comment: I know most of you will not see my post since it is so late and I must try to remember that this is a "youth site". Some of these comments are just plain sickening, what the hell does the gays plight have to do with the plight of the black man in America? I'll answer, NOTHING! There is absolutely no comparison. It is absurd to think so or to try to amke the comparison. No one is preventing a homo from being a homo, in fact we wouldn't even no if they didn't tell us, and who cares? These F%^$K go about their lives everyday without a problem, they vote, drink out of any water fountain they choose, go to any restroom, school, and certainly church they please. They get bank loans, own corporation, hold political offices, you name it. Tim has the right to disagree with being a homo just as they have the right to be a homo. He also has the right to say that! That doesn't make him phobic. I am so tired of the public trying to force feed me this gay s^&t! I don't care how you spin it....it is still WRONG! I know somebody will say they are born that way, I'll believe that when you show me a gay chicken or a funny dog.

Comment: The thing is, why do we expect people, specifically sports fiqures, to comment intelligently on certain subjects. Everytime you stick a mic in someones face you never know what you're gonna hear. These players live a sheltered, lockeroom, testerone fueled existance. It's no wonder no gay athelete has come out during their playing years. Tim Hardaway spoke his mind, stupidly so, but he said what he felt. Why apologize? Stand up, man! What they gonna do, put you in rehab? You would never have a career in broadcasting anyway, we've heard you speak. Two words for intellectually challenged musicians, actors, sports fiqures, and politicos....no comment. Keep it simple. Keep it movin'.

Comment: Oh Stop It! He only expressed what many of us think the HATE was a little harsh but being gay is sick and disgusting. So he only apologized to save his career but deep down he still feels the same way. GAY IS SICK no matter what your profession maybe and that's just the bottom line.
