Comment: I don't understand WHY eurweb continues to use quotes from Roger Friedman. He doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time, and his Michael Jackson obsession is down right scary! I don't believe a thing he says.

Comment: I don't understand why the headline for this particular story is worded to incite controversy. I applaud the fox network for examining Oprah. I could have predicted the outcome....she OUTGIVES many who come from priviledged backgrounds but have obviously never learned that it truly is better to give than to receive AND that we ALL have a responsibility to contribute, by all means available, to the betterment of our collective society.

Comment: It's more than likely that Friedman stole from someone else cause all the entertainment news this weekend reported this plus she was interviewed by Diane Sawyer and was grilled yet again about giving in africa but not here. Why must she explain when there are so many more that can afford to but don't. Look for more O negative news cause that school surely pis.sed a lot of folk off!

Comment: I'll tell you what though..I hear O's contract expires in 2010 and I think she will "thankfully" retire from the spotlight (or at least television). She does a lot of good, but Lawd does she let everyone know about it. It's strange to say I'm tired of her, because she is a hell of a philantrophist and generous spirit..but I am really tired of her. The late great John H. Johnson has given that and beyond to BLack institutions with little fanfare...I just read aabout this Nigerian brother (Kase Lawal) who has a billion dollar a year oil buisness in Texas, and this sister Janice Bryant who runs the largest temp agency (like 500 million in sales annually) out in California...why isn't there any highlights on Cathy Hughes (whether you like her or not) how many Black women own radio stations..I guess I am tired of white folks and thier obesession with O as if hse is the "be all end all"...as far as Roger is concerned, I know that EURweb isn't the only Black online publication that quote him, I've always wondered why? Maybe because he is obssesed with Black Folk and constatnly writes about them more than other mainstream columnists...he does seem to show love for old school performers writes about them regularly while showing clear disdain for others like Micheal Jackson and Whitney Houston.

Comment: Oprah should quickly learn to use "no comment." She doesn't have to defend her actions. People will get tired of her defending herself. I co-sign some of eutopia's comments. It is time for Oprah to get out of the spotlight, but she thrives on being seen and heard.

Comment: It never ceases to amaze me that whenever one of the great black people of our time (yes, great and black)tries to go forward and progress he/she is always torn down by the media. If this would have been Bill Gates opening up an African school for those 'poor black people', do you think that you would have seen all of this hidden animosity? Do you really? Today's racism is hidden in rhetoric and metaphor. Instead of just comming out and attaching her, she is attacked from the sidelines from people hiding in the crowd, so that it looks like EVERYONE is doing it. Jealous media racism is just that, jealous media racism. And, before anyone contradicts me, take a minute to really look at all of this that has come out the closer it got to her opening up her school...

Comment: You know, Oprah is in a damn if you do damn if you don't position. Do you really thnk that she could have invested all this money in a South African school and kept it quiet, even if she wanted to? As they say, the best defense is a good offense. I believe that she was so public about this because if she didn't she would have been accused of trying to hide her spending such money in South Africa. Kudos to Oprah..do you thang girl!!!!!

Comment: I agree Justmythoughts, there's no way in HELL O would've been able to do something of that magnitude and not keep it quiet. And for those of you saying you're tired of O talking about what she does in terms of charity, she DOES have a TV show AND a satellite station AND a network; it's a little hard for her not to talk about those things which are near and dear to her heart. She doesn't hold press conferences about her donations, but let her just MENTION something and the press is all over her. Like someone said before, if O was WHITE, the media may not be so quick to print everthing they can about her. But this is an intelligent and successful female African-American BILLIONAIRE who earned everything she has, and they STILL have trouble stomaching(is that a word?)it. As for the stupid woman that claims she got trampled by a crowd in Harpo, I have been there three different times for tapings. You are given a number when they send you to the waiting area, and they call your number in a group of 25, I believe. They don't dispell 300 people in the studio at once. Also, you can see the stage anywhere you sit, so it's not as though everyone rushes to the front seats. I think our numbers were close to the end one time, so by the time we were called the studio was almost full, but we sat on the second row at the Diana Ross/Brandy movie taping. I haven't been since 2000, but I seriously doubt the method has changed.

Now they ain't doing a dayum thing to help nobody but they know how Oprah should spend OPRAH'S money. Like a poster said, if I were Oprah I wouldn't 'xplain nothin' to nobody! Ain't their money!!!! When they can donate millions then they can complain!!

Comment: Oprah has exposed the latent racism in Amerikkka and some of the internalized self-hatred issues among some black people. Others have expressed it but, do you think for one minute that Warren Buffet, Bill Gates or Bono would be questioned regarding their charitable giving? Oprah is probably one of the most likable people in the country and white people still hatin' on her. WTF!!! Imagine what they think about the rest of us... To those of you with Brad or Becky, no matter how much education, money, fame or whatever you are still a %*$!(@ to them!!!
