Comment: Good moments: Justin singing "Sexyback" although I am sick of the MJ moves; Shakira & Wyclef doing "Hips Don't Lie", TI's "What You Know" and the Hype Williams tribute (that brought everything back to when music was fun).
Pink getting her award for "Stupid Girls", then making fun of Paris Hilton, and Jessica Simpson who were on the stage before she came on.
Oh yeah, and Snoop looking completely bored out of his mind, sippin on his Gin and Juice
Worst moments: Britney & Kev (who were greeted with silence), Beyonce (What the hell was that)? and the rest of the show....

Comment: How 'bout when Diddy spoke about MTV Making the Band and Danity Kane being #1 on Billboard. I swear I heard crickets <<lol>>. We dogg the brothers when they at play with all the women and alcohol, etc., so could someone PUH-LEASE explain the Jackasses to me and the f.u.c.k.e.r.y. they call funny. I just don't get white folk at play, as they were represented on MTV.

Comment: CoCoCaramel, I agree with you. I could see Janet's Rhythm Nation influence on that number. As dysfunctional as they are and as much as they are hated on, Janet and Michael have set the standard when it comes to music/dance video. I haven't seen much originality since them to be honest. The most refreshing dance act I've seen is Chris Brown. That boy can move and I was hurt that he did not get a moonman for his videos.

Comment: Justin, Justin, oh my Justin. He was GREAT and I'm so glad he opened the show!! It kind of made me wishful that MIchael Jackson wasn't crazy. I could see Michael modernizing his style and doing the type of music that Justin is doing. In fact, I think that Pharrell tried to give the material on “justified” to Michael Jackson for his Invincible cd and Michael turned it down. I was shocked that Pink won that award for stupid girls. I didn't think the song was well received at all, but good for her. T.I. is always good to me, there's only so much a rapper can do when he performs. Plus he's so handsome. The guys on the treadmill wore me out. I didn't see Nelly Furtado anywhere on this show. I thought it was weird b/c she should have performed since she dominated the summer after Shakira's grip loosened. Christina Aguilera's voice is just indescribable. I was surprised she sang a song that no one knew yet but when you're on her level I guess you can do that. Lil Kim made me sick as usual.

Comment: Aint T.I something to look at GOOD LAWD! I thought Beyonce was trying to start something at the end of her set because when the music stopped she said, "What?". I said "ohhhhhhh beyonce trying to start trouble"..LOL. I loved shakira's performance. I swear Imma break a hip trying to emulate the hip movements. I like Pink and she can sing too! But what happened with Jennifer and the guy she's with. His name lose me just that quick. As much as I love Pharrel and ludacris, their set was boring. Maybe had it been a more enthusiastic crowd, I would have been alil more pumped too. Don't use that guy that hosted anymore MTV. He bored the living shyt out of me.

Comment: Musb< I LOVED his pop locking, but mostly I loved the 2 songs. I'm not a big fan of his voice although I think it works for the type of music he does. I also liked how he didn't use props or a lot of fanfare. His suit reminded me of Sting or David Bowie. Usually I'm not able to get into songs I don't know but I already know I like his first song so to me that was an accomplishment. But, judging by your question you disagree. I was just sayin about Timabland that he's really not fat, looking at his body I can tell that he lifts a lot of heavy heavy weights, but doesn't do any toning or natural resistance, so he keeps getting thicker instead of toned. It's not cute to me.

Comment: Thanks to MTV On Demand (online), I saw all I was curious about in less than 20 minutes. (Don't have cable!) The best/most original part of the show was the treadmill guys. Bey's coat was FABULOUS! But then the rest of the performance was shot with the Rhythm Nation throwback. Not into rap so I wasn't too interested. Snoop's drink on the stage and Lil Kim's orange jumpsuit and her phrase(?) "can't hold a B%^$^ down" didn't sound too good coming out of Jack Black's mouth.

Comment: Imjus..I've NEVER been a Justin fan because I c nothing fantastic about his act...it's just regurgitated stuff that's kinda old IMO. BUT, I'm not one of those who thinks that because I don't like an artist, then "all" of their performances will be bad. I don't like Spears but her televised concert some years back was tite to def. Considering that this is his reentry back on the scene, I expected more "WOW" from an opening act. It's similar to what I expected from LeToya Luckett. There is no "wow" to her and she's had 6 years to prepare. Of all the people I know who like Justin (girlfriend included) ALL of them thought his performance was boring and quite subpar. On another note, I was shocked that B had an actual choreographed routine.

Comment: Musb< I feel what you’re saying but I’ve already seen Justin do the strictly choreographed, back up dancers, flashing lights, fog, pyrotechniques, flirt with a woman on stage, type of pomp and circumstance thing. I don’t like that stuff. In fact, I don’t remember enjoying ANY of his performances in the past, I just listen to his cd. Justin’s set felt like he was performing at Electric Factory or some smaller venue. Doing too much looks silly to me. As far as Beyonce’s performance was concerned, I liked that she tried to do it almost like a play but she didn’t seem like herself, she seemed like she was imitating some hood chick. I thought it was a good idea to do the rhythm nation type of formation but I think did the entire dance sequence from “If I was your woman” sans the hydrolic car simulation. ‘Member the video that was Asian inspired and had the women with the long fingernails? Why did you say you were surprised Beyonce had a routine? She usually has choreographed routines in her performances and that’s where she shines the best IMO, although the style of dancing she did last night was very different. Beyonce’s voice was ON POINT though, and I don’t think she was lip synching…but even if she was the vocals were live recorded so she still sounded great. Dovelyone< I cringed with Jack Black (white man) called Lil Kim (black woman) a good B!tch, I'm already not a Lil Kim fan but that started her bit off totally wrong for me.

Comment: Oh ok...it was a bore to me. I think B was in character last nite. IMO, it was the best one. Not just because I like her..but the other performers (black) were just awful. The tribute to Hype, TI, and the rest were just AWFUL. As much as I like Luda and Pharell..it was just crappy to me. SECRET...nah hip hop aint' going nowhere netime soon. It may reinvent itself..but it's toooooo much money involved for it to go under. It was the VMA's..and it's never been a "black" show..lol

Comment: Musb< I don't think we will remember ANY of these performances or this year's awards. I already heard Beyonce's cd. I know you don't want to download ahead of time b/c that's your girl, that's how I feel about Kelis and Justin. There are 2 songs on B's cd that I like...ok. Each song has something special about it but none of the songs are great in their entirety if that makes sense. To me this album isn't different from her last one (except the beats are harder) it's the same thing about how in love she is, and all the things she'll do for her man, only this time she's talking lots of slang and cursing and on several songs she's talking about what she has bought for her man or will buy for him. She also does a lot of label name dropping and stuff, it's like a rap cd in that sense. I think it's one of those cds where you love it to pieces or your hate it to shreds.

Comment: Ok, Janet and Beyonce are my favorites. I really like "Ring the alarm". That is a hot song and its got that Beyonce/DC bounce to it that I like. With that said, I could have done without the Rythm nation dance routine. Why? Because it was too long. After a few moves she should have done something else. It started to look silly after a while. The rest of the performance was hot.

Comment: I have no doubt that Beyonces CD will be fiyah. Its funny cause I remember when her first CD came out and people were saying how tired it was and there was only 1 or 2 good songs on it. Then when the CD dropped and she started releasing the songs they were all hot and dominated radio/video the whole year.

Comment: IMJUS..STOP IT..STOP IT..STOP IT...lol.. Ur right, I will not do the download thing..(although I did 4 deja and the alarm..) I just won't do the whole album. Overall her 1st CD was good. But, it's not like EVERY song on her CD was hott. There were several exceptions. That's pretty much the same as it has been in the past and consistent w/98% of artists out now. If she can somewhat mirror that, then I'll be ok. I'm kewl w/her talk'n about the same stuff cuz as a female..unfortunately, there's only so much u can talk about in song. Most females to date only talk about the same things..heartache/pain, love or finding yourself. I don't knock it because that's what sells. NV..I thought it was too long too..but I liked it overall.

Comment: Musb< A VERY few come to mind, There's got to be a way, Sunflowers (about her father), The Wind (about a friend that died) (I know both are "pain" related but they are not about a romantic relationship which is really the crux of my point). Make it Happen, and Since I changed My name. I would even consider Hero in that list but I guess that's about 'finding yourself.' This was hard and her best songs are by far the ones where she is talking about love.

Comment: Yeah that was the 1st one w/Vanishing, I Dont' Wanna Cry and All in my mind...I like that one too. I still thinks she's doing her thing. I just believe that it's extremely hard being in the industry. If people tire of you doing one thing w/ur 1st CD..then want something different for the 2nd. If it's toooo far different, they're not going to like it. Couple that w/a constantly changing industry..then it's even worse. I personally like India Arie...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than A. Keys. But..oh well. IMO Alicia's 1st cd was almost the same as her 2nd for the most part. I just happened to like the 2nd one better..as well as A Hamilton's 2nd. Ok...uhm..maybe I'm bored too...

Comment: Musb< I definitely agree that consumers are fickle as all hell. And the expectations for popular artists are VERY high so there's that for them to deal with as well. I think about how Janet's song call on me would have done well if song by a new artist or maybe even Ciara...but for Janet that song was trash. But we all have people looking over our work, so in that regard, celebrities aren't that different from us. I saw Michelle from DC on a clip from Celebrity duets and it just confirmed my opinion that if I were Beyonce I would have been put that b!tch out the group and Kelly too. Maybe B's father designed the group so other members would be weaker than B or maybe B resigned herself to carrying them, I really can't tell.

Comment: Imjus...lol..now I won't agree w/u on that. Forming a group isn't just about finding the "best" voices...it's about finding the "right" voices. There are hoards of people who can sing better than Kelly, Michelle BUT when u sing as a "group" u need the right "sound" I think that as a group, they have one of the best "sounds" for a female group in the past 10-15 years (en vogue, brownstone excluded) Michelle has a whiney voice..but it works for her. I would rather her sound that way as opposed to sounding like whitney or even beyonce for that matter. LOL@ Twizted

Comment: Musb< find that clip and watch it. Not only does Michelle sound horrible, but she cannot stay on beat to save her life and I am NOT talking about dancing. Check Kelly Rowland's performance with Nelly or the one she did with Trina for that wack azz song they had together... HORRIBLE. Now some of this is confidence issues, but much of it is just sounding a mess. I was in a singing group back in the dizzay, but we all could/can hold our own separately. I know what you're saying about finding voices that compliment each other for harmonic purposes...but it's still nice to have a group where you don't cringe when someone besides the lead has a solo.

As a Beyonce fan, I was disappointed.
I thought her performance was just ok.
But she had both her band and too many dancers with awful trench coats on. she also did some dance moves that we have all seen Janet do. I can see doing a few, since most artists borrow from MJ including Janet herself. But it was too much. It probably didn't help too, that I did not like the song at all. It just isn't a good fit for her. I didn't bother to watch the rest of the boring show. Maybe dreamgirls will redeem Beyonce since her album is starting to fizzle after just so far one hit.

Michelle is going to have to eat a burger or something and put her weight back on and then maybe she will be able to focus on singing cause it is hard to sing when your hungry!! LOL....Kelly is OK, she just needs to come up from under Bey...her confidence needs to shine through and I bet she will be OK! IJA - check out You Tube performances of DC and Michelle can actually hold it down very well! Like I said, a burger for Michelle, with cheese and condiments!! ha ha
