Comment: Two reasons why I think Vibe is failing, 1) Since Emil left, then Danyel, the magazine is crap. 2) Since current artists today are crap, you're going to have articles that are crap. That's it.

Comment: Q is considered the founder of Vibe but he does not own it and at best may retain a small percent, but doed not nor ever controlled a majority share. He was paid by Time Warner for the concept and at that time he was creatively involved. Vibe has gone through a few owners over the years...having consulted there many years ago, I came away with mixed feelings....it felt like "Romper Room" to me in terms of organization however at the time, they had folks working there who went on to become very good writers....

Comment: I don't know what can be done to revive the magazine. It's been slipping for several years now. I stopped subscribing to them as well because of the lack of substance and decent articles. I forgot who the first editor-in-chief for the magazine was but he did a hell of a job. He did a great job in balancing classic soul articles along with the latest talent. Now the magazine is proliferated with nothing but fashion layouts and ridiculous amounts of adverstisting. Not to mention that some of the musical subjects were not interesting! As a previous poster said, who wants to constantly read about b's, hos, bling, Cristal and 'thug life'. It's gets redundant and I know I refused to spend anymore money supporting it!

Comment: Hopefully they'll be able to regroup before too long. I'm glad Mimi Valdes was sacked...I didn't appreciate that nasty hack job she did on Mary J. Blige with that cover incident. Good riddance to her!

Comment: Media, you do have a point. Emil worked under Danyel. I believe Danyel left then Emil was put at the helm, then after that, Mimi and then it was a wrap, it went from sugah to shyt!

Comment: NyCSoul--I agree--the first editor-in-chief was amazing. I think his name was Alan Light. I think he works at Rollingstone or TIME or something now. But yeah--when Alan was at the helm, Vibe was art. The issue itself was huge, the photography was amazing, the mag was done on good quality paper--even when Emil and Danyel were in charge, I still read it. It's pure garbage now. And that Vibe Vixen is a piece of shat. It almost seems like the editors are just sitting around the offices with their feet up on their desks--listening to the free CDs they get, going to free events and taking home freebies. Mimi Valdes interviewed me in 1994 for an intern position there (I got it but it was unpaid and I didn't know anyone in N.Y. I could live with), and she was very nice to me. So, I think as a person, she is cool, but as an editor of a major magazine? No go. I just think because she and Shani Saxon have been there so long (more than 10 years) they have just gotten complacent. This probably needed to happen so they can wake up and maybe get back to doing real journalism.

Comment: Deb70-I still have some of my old Vibe magazines. I'm kinda sentimental like that. I mean, they had good writers like Dream Hampton, Scott Paulsen-Bryant, Harry Allen(the media %*$asssin), another brother whose name escapes me that wrote a book about the circumstances surrounding Biggie's death, another sister who is writing books about relationships with her husband and so on. I knew Vibe was steadily going downhill when they featured Karrin Stephens, with her bare %*$ exposed and her legs spread open on a kitchen counter. It seemed that Vibe was more interested titillating its readers than given them quality articles.

Comment: Quincy is the founder, but NOT the owner. Earlier this year it was reported on EUR that he wanted to put in a Bid to buy it back. But the current owner was trying to block "Q" out of the buyout, so he couldn't bid at that time.
