Name: archcookies
Comment: What were they doing buying makeup?

Name: ericsgirl
Comment: I like Tyra but sometimes I just hate to see her smile because it looks so forced and fake. Tyler might not be gay but sometimes he acts a little sugary to me too.

Name: karamelky
Comment: SO ARE THEY DATING OR WHAT? I NEED TO KNOW.

Name: ICUH8N

Name: lilwyde
Comment: y'all are so crazy!! i luv it

Name: Nappy_Edges
Comment: Ooh, nightshift why you be readin' my mind this morning? (LOL) The mainstream press don't know his as.s! The headline will read "Chubby Queen Driving Tyra Banks' Car Runs Over Papparazzi." That's about it.

Name: DCGG
Comment: lololololo I swear I cannot stand Tyler Perry - and all you church folks love going to see his big ole gay azz dress up in drag and act a damn fool on screen but will crucify a gay person or drag queen...I gets no understanding...

Name: queeniebunz
Comment: Um, yeah. Sure he's dating Tyra Banks. And I'm dating Little Richard. Sugar in his tank? This guy is the whole sugar cane field! Whateva. This fool. I give him props for blowing up off the chitlin' circuit and all but I will not see this movie and I'm mad I saw the first one. He's corny and I really wish he'd go away. Black people will watch anything. Jeez...

Name: thechocolate10
Comment: at first everybody was lovin madea and tyler. now he is mainstream and peole hata him. I will wait for it to come out on dvd but i look for to see Madea goes to jail.

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: I like Tyler Perry, but that was blatant name dropping...LOL... I can hear him now, "Well my first encounter with the paparazzi was when I took Tyra Banks are dinner!" Really....hahah...he's alright with me, go on brotha' and do you. He is definitely doing his thing.

Name: xavixavi
Comment: There's a blind item about a dead beat dad that writes plays that go tour nationally. hmmmmm you think it could be him???? I sure do, but yeah, I think he's gay too....

Name: Priceless
Comment: I know ain't nobody started no rumor about this queen being married to Tyra but him *snicker*

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: ICU and Priceless, I know that's right! He's putting that "rumor" out himself to cover his own sweet behind.

Name: dutches150
Comment: Whether he is gay or not and whether you like him or not, he is giving other black actors and singers jobs. You complain about how mainstream is not giving alot of black actors jobs, well Tyler is creating these jobs. And you know what, I don't know the man personally so I really don't care to know if he is gay. Tyler did what some black folks wish they could do in show business. It seems like you can't win from losing with our own people. Besides he is not the first one to dress up like a female and create a whole new personality (Cedric the Entertainer, Flip Wilson, and many others) we are not sure of their sexual orientation and it really is none of your business. And BTW..DCGG US church folks like entertainment....it has nothing to do about seeing "his big ole gay azz dress up in drag and act a damn fool on screen". Not all "Church Folk" crucify gays and drags, I am one to believe that regardless of who you sleep with or dress up as, you are still a child of GOD. And one more thing, You may not want to support Tyler Perry and his work, but his plays and movies always have a message, but you would want to support other projects that have no message and that doesn't even show black people in a positive manner. Can we at least stick together for something. We have to start respecting each others game. To each his own.

Name: archcookies
Comment: I commend Tyler for making it in a very hard business, but I am a little tired of Madea, just like I got tired of Shanaynay, Wanda and all the other man inspired women. I don't know if he gay or not and it's not my business. I am tired of this character, and as far as I am concerned since he hit the big time and has more money to play with he has dropped Tamara Mann (that heifer can sing for me anyday) and others of his original cast, he said he had conditions for going mainstream and from what I remember him saying (that why you should talk too much)he has compromised his stand. If you want to pay money to see Mabel go ahead, I have bought the DVDs of the play and even seen one live and at best they are very amaturish, I really got them for the music more than the acting. Tyler is a very talented man but Madea is wearing me and a lot of other people very thin.

Name: PositiveB
Comment: Dutches, you are so correct. It seems that too often sucessful blacks can't win for losing. If he had a bunch of white folks in his plays people would be calling him an Uncle Tom, but we ignore the fact that he has given many black entertainers an opportunity they might not otherwise get. It seems like it is OK for everyone else to be successful but US!

Name: 4mybabygirl
Comment: I love Tyra Banks and people need to stop being so critcal of our people doing there thing. I hope they are dating. It is good to see black love and people doing good things for themselves. We need more power couple and roll models for young black couples and singles.

Name: dutches150
Comment: Xavixavi where is this blind item? Laterras R. Whitfield is also a play writer. He is actually touring now for his play “Issues: We All Got Em”. He is also the author of What Men Don't Tell, Guilty until Proven Innocent, and Tall, Dark, & Handsome. He also fathered a daughter when he was eighteen years old.

Name: khufu
Comment: WOW!! Do I have lots of comments: first as a still struggling vet of/in the entertainment industry...first: see, folks who just pop up outta no where, without paying any real dues, have no real clue whatsoever about the culture of the business, the protocaol, the realities or the procedures....yet there they are making milliosn of dollars..oh not Tyra..I give her props but Tyler.... to me, this is akin to Kanye's supposed "thugged attitude" last night at Grammy's..as well as the lack of respect for those pioneers whopassed aay..there should have been standing ovations for certain folks....an, who is Tyler Perry? Im not hating it's just that there are so many more legit artists whether actors, screenwriters, directors, etc who should be working as wll as holding the mantle for legit Black arts whether legitimate theatre or legit cinema....

Name: archcookies
Comment: I for one am sick of black humor because the majority of black shows use put down humor it's part of our culture but one that I wish we would abandon. Nobody hates Tyler Perry, it's Mabel Simmons I can't stand anymore.

Name: khufu
Comment: second: do you remember Rudy Ray Moore? Okay, Black films are all tracable to Oscar Micheaux and Spenser WIlliams although there were other filmmakers early in the history of Cinema, these teo are the "fethers of Black Cinema"....okay Melvin Van Peebles became the father of Contemporary Black Cinema in the 70s with Sweetback and through his lineage came Independent and Mainstream Hollywood Directors (Black..Gordon Parks, Michael Schultz...however, RUDY RAY MOORE also is a "father" of a genre of Black film....the Urban, Low Budget (some might say "ghetto") genre...trace Tyler to this genre...as well as most of the DVD "filmakers" now prevalent....not in terms of budget or distribution/exhibition...

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: Tyler Perry's plays/movies are simply not my cup of tea. Does that make me a "hater"? No. That makes me a person with an opinion. And yes, I do think he is gay. Does that make me a homophobe? No. That makes me a person with an opinion. I could be wrong about his orientation, but I brought it up because I think it's a "cover ploy" for the mainstream that he mentions this "rumor." And the fact that I think he is gay has nothing to do with me not liking his plays/movies. I'm glad that Tyler Perry has found a niche for himself and is successful. I'm not mad at him for making money legitimately and thriving.

Name: khufu
Comment: see. Rudy Ray Moore, Moms Mabley, REdd Foxx. etc..that genre of Black art...unfortunately mass popular culture reigns supreme so the sub-genre has become prevalent and mainstream..the discussion is a bit too academic for here....now question: can we attribute Ricahrd Pryor as the focal point of this transition?? and if so, hmmmmmmmm do we "blame" him or applaud him?

Name: khufu
Comment: please excuse my typos..i dont proof....LOL..not ehre anyway

Name: khufu
Comment: 4MYBABYGIRL: Tyler Peery as role model? HMMMMMMMM..is anyone making money, no matter how they make it, acceptable as a role model? Tler Perry's work is not what Black people need right now and the homosexual lifestyle, most believe, is not wholesome and righteous...this is a good role model for you and your children?

Name: khufu
Comment: DUTCHES150: Proper term is Playwrite or Playwright

Name: khufu
Comment: the test is one of quality and longevity...let's see what Tyler can do to produce work that will take things to the next level....let's see if he can produce quality work for Black actors that will also transform the lives of Black folks more than just entertain

Name: DCGG
Comment: Dutches-- what messsage does Tyler's movies send? Oh yeah an old lady can smoke weed, drink 40's, carry and shoot a gun, just act plain ghetto - great message! Look, by all means this is America, if you want to support Tyler have at it but don't go insulting my or anyone else's intelligence by saying "at least Tyler's moves have a message"...Please that's a message he can keep!

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry but I admire his success. His sexual orientation matters not..it just gives something for a lot of negative people to talk about. He's one of hundreds in his industry who are gay...so what! From my readings, Tyler was once broke, homeless, sleeping on park benches because there was nowhere else for him to go. He is a self-made multi-millionaire. And the best thing is that he did it legally and in a very positive way. He wasn't on the streets selling drugs, robbing people or any of that. So, I'm confused as to why people would have such low feelings toward him. KHUFU considering that, you say that you are a struggling vet of the industry, I would assume that you would appreciate his success. However, it doesn't seem that way and that's what is confusing..especially considering your interest. You're sounding quite elitist my brotha..quite elitist. Why wonder what he's going to be able to do next because you've condemned him from the jump. I'm sure he nor anyone else expected his play to turn into a movie. In fact, how many black plays have u seen make the jump from stage to screen. I'm not a fan of his genre but I'm also not a fan of a lot of genre's that are quite successful. And for everyone who carries so much disdain for Tyler and his plays..you can not POSSIBLY like Chappelle or 85% of hip-hop..yet i bet ya'll azzes do..

Name: khufu
Comment: musbdherbs...whazz up? Its been a while...I am a cultural and artistic elitist...that's out the way...LOL...I do however, at what price is success important? you ever see the movie The Devils Advocate? well, I FOR MYSELF cant sell cheap, degrading, trivial artistic and cultural expressions or "success" and "economic" gain.....for one, I have to meet my Maker one day 2) I have to meet my ancestors one day and 3) I wont pimp the people like that.....so do I admire his success? Hmmmmmmm...should I? and if so, why? If Beloved or Eve's Bayou had made millions I would have creamed all over myself in joy!

Name: NewSchoolPrincess
Comment: OOK SO I SEE ALOT OF YOU ARE VERY JUDGMENTAL TODAY AND SOME SOUND LIKE YOUR MAD CAUSE SOMEONE CAME UP AND IT WAS YOU. so anyway i love tyler perry! i have a male friend like him and i swear this man gets more women then most of my other homeboys. hes pretty and silly and seems abit sweet in the tank but i can truly say homeboy is a mack!!!!! dont let them fool yall. those are the same men you cant leave your women around for to long. i make more comments but the hate in the room is overwelming. i'm allergic to hate. one love.

Name: khufu
Comment: LOL see thats one of the major reasons why two things happen to Black folks and in the community: so many just find it "hating" wjen often offering up constructive xriticism, crtical anaylsis, etc..thats why Black folks are so tolerant (have become, anyway) of any socially deviant behaviour and those attitudes, lifestyles and behaviours that are self-negating and self-destructive... this stupid azz concept of "hating" which can be traced by to the advent of hip hop and rap music keeps Black folks in self-contained slave mentality.... there are certain things in the Black comunity (globally) that are against our nature, our survival, our sanity and our collective well-being...mention those things and the only "intelligent" conversation you get is "ya'll hatin'" it's a damn shame.....

Name: khufu
Comment: NEWSCHOOLPRINCESS....man, i hate to say it and I mean no disrespect but it's true..Black folks have gotten wiser and weaker...the mo' money we have made we have lost our minds.....lol ANYTHING IS ACCEPTABLE...STUPIDITY IS PASSED OFF AS INTELLIGENT, MEANINGFUL AND SIGNIFICANT COMMENTARY...just flip the chanel...go to another meesgae board and that solves all OUR problems...look, respectfully, Tyler Perry's works have no redeeming value to a people lost, powerless, confused and in despearte need of redemption! You say some stupid %*$! like "He can get a man..." I dont even know what you said.........LOL

Name: DCGG
Comment: Khufu you hit the nail right on the head! Speak on it! It burns me up when someone says "ya'll hating" without offering any alternative views or opinions that might sway me to think differently.

Name: dutches150
Comment: Okay khufu, I understand totally what u r saying, and I commend you for addressing the “hatin” mentality. Even though we all may have different opinions of things, we should still be able to agree to disagree. Sometimes people have a common goal to reach but a different way of approaching it. I do appreciate a person that stands by their beliefs with passion. I also enjoyed Beloved and Eve’s Bayou was one of my favorite movies. With that being said, I learned to look beyond the negativity and get to the message behind the madness. Some people can relate to Madea and her dysfunctional family so they pay attention. As “coonish” as his plays may seem, there are people out there that are just like these characters. DCGG-I have seen Tylers plays target domestic abuse, promiscuity, self esteem, adultery, love, what goes around comes back around. Some people get caught up in how the message is being delivered instead of the message itself.

Comment: khufu you sound a little touched. I would advise people on this board and other to ignore the tirades of such ignorance. He speaks intimates a knowledge of the bible however condemms his brotherman ..Love thy neighbor not talk about or disparage.. The Devil is knowledgeable and will judge and qoute facts and tell you what is right or wrong .. So just watch out yall.. If you ignore him he will go away or 2 some other board (lol).. There is only one redemmer and that is a personal issue. No one knows his plans or what he has in store for anyone. People can be so argogant at time s to DARE think that we can speak 4 the Lord,,

Name: 4mybabygirl
Comment: Knafu or Fufu whatever your name is... You have some problems that no one can began understand. My kids do not Madea. But, when they are of age to watch it, they can. Furthermore, my comment was about an african american couple being in love. The presence of a good clean relationship will show others that it can happen for them. It is not about his star status or him being gay. Further you shouldn't judge anybody's character until you look at yourself. Because usually when we judge other people we have issues deep within us that we need to look at. So, step back and take a look at yourself and see if you are where God would want you to be.

Name: SweetieDarlin
Comment: Knufu, thanks for making some interesting points. I am glad too some other people have out to say they don't care for the Madea plays, I've been saying it forever and people keep telling I don't know what I'm missing BUT I DO, the same old schtick that became tired in the mid 80s with Shelly Garretts Beauty Shop series. I do not like hearing the exaggerated so called BLACK dialect (who really talks like that except in so-called black plays),weird movements, neck rolling etc. I don't think it's cute or even amazing that an older women smokes weed or drinks 40, there are older people who do in lower income neighborhoods and beyond it's just not all that cute or clever so I'm not sure why any this is supposed to be funny. Or maybe because my deceased aunt used to act just like Madea, I didn't think she was funny just rude and a little scary....

Name: TommyStrong
Comment: cant we all just get along? dayum! Its simple...agree to disagree...and never be to arrogant or naive enough to believe that your opinion is nothing more than than - an opinion! And if your opinion stems from your deep rooted jealousy then you are hatin'! its just that simple....i may not like his plays but i am proud to see a brother doing his thing especially considering all he went thru to get where he is today.

Name: TommyStrong
Comment: should be "anything more than that - an opinion"

Name: khufu
Comment: hey ignorant Travis..what Bible do you read? or you must be gay? LOL clearly the Bible condemns homosexuality...JESUS SAID: I JUDGETHE NOT BUT THE FATHE RIN ME JUDGETH AND HIS JUDMENT IS RIGHTEOUS.....so repent from your bi-sexual life styled and tell your wife/girl you swing both ways......

Name: khufu
Comment: 4mybabygirl...I hope you will give your children some whole options to MADEA or else they will perpetuae the same ghetto/plantation ignorance that keeps Black people well ghetto and on the plantation.....

Name: khufu
Comment: 4mybabygirl..thats "wholesome" not whole

Name: sdock63
Comment: I dont think Tyler is gay. My reason being; his plays have a moral message and to me seem very spirtually based. He does use black humor to get his point across. I have heard him speak about his life and I think he is a religious man and that is why i dont think he is gay. He may have been born with those tendencies but maybe he is resisting them. I think it's just the fact that he does his female character so convincingly and has that baby face. I'm not tired of Madea. And apparently there are alot of people like me because his plays sell out ! Black people lets support each other, and stop letting Whitey tell you want is acceptable humor.

Name: MissDef
Comment: khufu what the hell did that have to do with what new school said. she said she knew a dude like him... and yall are hating. thats all.you need to get a life... you just felt like arguing.

Name: glazenspice
Comment: And the point again was what? come on now people just be happy for people that help others be your own role model for your kids I am my kids role model not people on TV except for Oprah W.

Name: caramelpoetry
Comment: Hay all - just my opinion. I don't like Madea, not because he is perpetrating a woman but it's just not that funny to me. I think it sends little boys a mixed message. Why is a man dressing like a woman? Movies like this will confuse children. I am happy the brother blew up and can live confortably now, but I'm sick of this play, movie etc. whatever it is, Tylers Madea is corny!!!!!

Name: jada
Comment: Tyra is my girl, I love her & all she has accomplished. And Tyler is Amazing, I just left his play in the STL, and he ripped it. You are Awesome, I wish you nothing but the best!!! May God continue to pour his blessing over you and everything you touch...
